I've played at least a hundred maps. How is it that some of these players can beat maps in almost HALF my time? Is there some secret/technique I don't know about??

Michionlion

no, its just they know how to use bridging, under-building, and other such tricks to the max

What are bridging and under-building?

Sqaz

Underbuilding is just building what's neccesairy, nothing more, nothing less.
Bridging is using a flying weapon to connect to collectors over creeper, crazonium walls or unpassable terrain by keeping it in the air.

Michionlion

bridging is when you use a military unit or oc to "bridge" the gap between a totem or some-other thing that need to be collected.  Under-building (i don't know what other people call it, thats just what i call it) is when you use bridging and other techneques to bridge to the totems without building a lot of stuff.  sort of like rushing (which is when you "rush" to the totems before walls or other stuff breaks).

Edit: oops sorry sqaz didn't see.... well now you have two answers hiredgun.

That's already the second time in about 1.5 minutes :P ;D.

But two is always better than one.

HiredGun

Bridging looks tedious so I'll avoid maps that require it and I already 'under-build' but it strikes me that there is a trick I'm missing to getting sufficient energy early. I generally start by building two collectors then one more at a time to avoid an energy deficit.

well if you just use bridging sparingly it can be useful.  To get energy early on you just have to find the right combination of too much and not enough building at one time.

The best beginning strategy I can tell tell you, is to build as many energy producing structures using the least amount of energy to protect it. Collectors are great if you have room, and reactors if you do not have enough. Keep this tactic until you think you have enough energy to beat the map. That is how I do it.

Blaze

Be an over-builder and have fun!

I love to have 50+ blaster to just obliterate the creeper in every possible way, while keeping track of all my blaster by having them in "Squads" of groups of 3-4 blasters.
That's why I love "Urban" Type maps, because I can have about 6 Squads of blasters.

ontheworld

I'm with blaze, but then I just get a lot of drones...

Fisherck

I am afraid that I am a little to competitive for that... ;)

I really enjoy controlling all the creeper. I usually don't finish maps before having it 100% free of blue.
It means low scores, and it also kind of contradicts the storyline, which is based on fleeing from an unbeatable threat,
but it's the most fun way of playing the game for me.
Stressfull pro stuff like bridging is where the fun ends for me. I can see how people enjoy striving to get the perfect score,
but I just can't be bothered  ;D

I love the building part.
I want to build an infrastructure, watch a symmetrical, aesthetic system grow, like a neural net.
And I think no othe rgame out there can do that as well as creeper world.

Thanks, Vergil!

There are certain unstated elements of the backdrop that keep that from ruining the story... Odin City leaves each world because its inhabitants know that if they give the creeper time to prepare, the sky will blacken with falling creeper, that they must move from world to world as fast as possible if the creeper is to be spread thinly enough to hold back...
