New comments system

I really don't understand why this system has changed. It has become much less user friendly, and toggling between scores and comments is no longer possible. The game is therefore much less interesting for me and indeed I may soon stop being a player. The number of comments on recent maps has fallen dramatically. Shame. km

As we said before, the old system permitted any poster to use any name they wish. So I could post as PeterRabbit, or VirgilW, or Popeye and no-one would be the wiser. For those wishing to cause mischief, this allowed them to (mis)use the comment threads to insult some people using the names of others. It also allowed them to post obscene or vulgar messages without a way to stop them.

With registered users (which you had to do to post here), it makes it more difficult to post under an assumed name, and impossible to post under the name of another registered user. It makes it easier to moderate or delete comments, and it allows for bans of offending users or IP addresses.

None of us likes this, but this is how the Internet is. Bad people spoil it for everybody.

There are a few good things about the new comment system though. You can post an image, or a hyperlink to something else. And for those of us being forum addicts, it allows us to consolidate all discussions about a map into a single location. in the old system, some comments were here, others were on the maps pages and we had to switch back and forth. Not that great either.

It is absolutely possible to toggle between scores and comments. Just follow these easy steps:

Here is the scores page:

Click on the link circled and you get the comments page (thread) here in the forum:

Click on the circled link and you will be back on the scores page.

Yes, comments have dropped off, and that is regrettable.

I don't recall seeing many comments from you in the old system, so I assume you posted comments under a different name than you registered here on the forum.

Its always a little confusing when there is something new ,
but after an while we all should get used to this and see how great this might be in the future =)
PLZ THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU CALL YOUR TOPIC ! It will make the search work better =)

How to make links

Kamron3

Only way to improve the map comments is to require a forum account before downloading.

I believe that this should be done anyway, if there is anyway to do such a thing, Virgil should do it.

Pr you can do what I do tab it.

Basically you open the score page then using your mouse roller (I believe it's standard this way anyways) click it using the roller and it will open the link in a new tab.

Or you can right click the link then click open in new tab.

I do this so I can swap quickly between my forum tab, facebook tab, game wiki/calculator tab and online game tab.
This is for the record.. I will not go silently into the night! I will not go without a fight! Tonight I make my final stand! I go forth in the hell I choose for myself, not the one chosen for me! I will return from this hell, or leave this world knowing I died a cause I wanted to die for!

Thanks. Shame that there always seem to be those who abuse the system. By the way, I commented on almost every game I played (as 'km') - some high scores too! I'll see if I can be bothered to continue.

You have a forum account, what's the problem? >_>

Nice to meet you "KM."  :)

I remember your comments and hope you will try this new system out and see if it grows on you.
