welcome to the forums nietopsze :D
Everything is too long a list to work with.
No one knows everything about anything.
No one knows something about everything.
Everyone knows something about something.
Anyone could be the world's foremost expert on something.
Anyone who thinks that just because they didn't already know a thing, it must not be true or important, is an idiot.

Trust me, the game is well on its way. Patience is a virtue. :)

Hard to come by patience when you wait a year having hopes it would be out today but its not. If he cant give a release date how about a date that it wont be ready before? That way people don't get their hopes up just to see there is no game? Its like what happened to the new Xbox. OOO a new system! Its going to be better and have an awesome name! NOPE xbox 1 FTL.

IIRC the most likely "earliest release date" would have been December 2012 anyways, so I'm not sure how you managed to expect a release for a year already?
I know how you feel though. I got pretty desperate with the Solforge PC beta release date, mostly due to the lack of information (and lots of broken promises). However, Virgil did never promise a thing, he merely gave us the likelihood in one of his videos (Dungeon Novice). Chances are good the release is pretty close now, going by the addition of beta-tester videos in the blog updates. Also, he said "almost certainly in the first half of 2013" - going by the standards of software development, this does suggest something between june and august :D

Long story short, don't get disappointed over it, it won't help.
The game is making good progress and you shouldn't have to be waiting long anymore.
Virgil isn't torturing you on purpose, he's doing his best to deliver a great game which meets his quality standards (and those are somewhere high up there, in stars).

As a little personal suggestion: Never, ever, and I mean _never_ do what you're doing, which is "waiting for something to happen". I did it, it drove me nuts a few years back. Look forward to it, but live in the moment. You'll miss out on so much by waiting for something else to happen. The future won't come any closer any faster just because you focus all your power on it. Enjoy something you can do right now, and stop waiting.

Virgil never promised a release date. It'll be worth the wait though.

I get hammered for a release date on some combination of facebook, twitter, email, blog, forum every day.  I wish I could just put a date down.  But I've been writing software since I was a tiny little kid and the one thing you learn is that estimating when a software project will be 'finished' is a black art.  It involves chicken bones, incantations, cauldrons... are sorts of unreliable techniques.

Part of the problem is you don't know either what you have to do, how long it will take, or what issues might arise.  It's a trifecta of uncertainty.  For instance, I might introduce a bug in a core piece of code (because I got distracted, took a break, and posted on the forums :) ).  That bug might not manifest till weeks later when other systems are in place.  Once discovered, it could take 2 days to find, fix, and make corrective structural changes.  That one little goof up could cause the schedule to slide by 2 days.

So, developers compensate by padding their estimates.... a lot.  Like by a factor of 2 or 3.  But then developers tend to go freestyle... with games that happens all of the time.  They will add features they never intended to add in the first place. Why?  Two reasons (with games anyway), it is interesting to the developer or it makes an awesome addition to the game.  If it is so awesome why wasn't it in the plan to start with?  Well, the developer was too simple minded to know that to start with.  In other words, writing software (especially games) is also an act of discovery.  You sail off into uncharted waters with every project.

Imagine a sea explorer hundreds of years ago.  He sets sail with his ships and crew and heads west into the unknown.  He's been a captain for many years and seen things no land dweller would ever believe.  He will face storms, hurricanes, sea monsters, disease, mutiny... he doesn't know for sure what he will find, what he will explore, how far he must travel, if he can even return.  Before he departs, the royal court that funds his journey calls him in.  A giant calendar in placed on the floor before him and the monarch says, "Tell us, what day will you return with the treasure"?

That's (an overly romantic version of) software development.  So where is CW3 at this point?  Look west, stand very still first thing in the morning with the sun at your back.  Just on the horizon and barely visible you will see a flag waving atop a main mast.

that sounds like a nice story line for a CW3 custom map. Especially if CRPL will support user input. make the player determine how long it will take them to finish the map.  :)

Now i feel obligated to write something visual. Maybe a more detailed version of what i just quoted...

It was a quite morning. The birds were out and life was stirring. The king of our country, Virgil, was due to be arriving any day with promise of untold riches. Every morning I woke with the hope that it would be today he returns to his flourishing lands after what has seemed an eternity. I threw on my leather jerkin over my white cloth shirt and stepped out side into the pale sunlight which was barely stretching over the nearby mountains. I walked about a mile to a nearby cliff over looking the deep unforgiving ocean. The only blasted thing separating me and my king. By now the sun rose over the snow capped mountains and I felt the warmth of the morning rays being cast down on my back and giving me hope. The early morning was my favorite time of day. There is something about watching the morning rays wash over the landscape creating a ocean of light that just makes me feel so alive. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of the salty although refreshing air. As i opened them I saw the unbelievable. I saw a flag. His flag. There was no mistaking the KC emblem on the golden trimmed cloth flowing in the wind. I felt all coldness leave my body. I started to shake and cry with the joy and happiness. I knew the wait was coming to a head. My king, Virgil, had finally returned.

P.S. Any criticism is muchly appreciated! I am trying to start writing in more detail.

Open math question: If you can just see the flag of a ship in the horizon, how long does it take for it to reach the shores? :D

How tall is the ship? At what longitude/latitude (I always get those two confused) are we? What wind speeds and directions do you approximate at time of sighting, the following hour, days, weeks? What's the weather like at the first sighting (regarding viewing distance)? How high are you above the shoreline? Will there be other ships crossing the ships trajectory, blocking its progress/affecting currents?

You see, there are so many variables to the equation, some of which can't be defined very easily if at all. We just have to wait and see and hope there won't be any storms in the near future or any sandbanks on the way.
