One more milestone… the Steam “Coming Soon” store page for Particle Fleet is now live!
http://store.steampowered.com/app/422900
Here’s what I need from the Knuckle Cracker legions… if you are interested in Particle Fleet, head over to the steam store page and add it to your wish list. Even if you want to purchase the game directly, or via some other store, add it to your steam wish list. The total number of people on the wish list is something I can see, and it is a good indicator of the level of interest in the game. Plus, when the game launches, steam will let you know.
And as usual, I’m very appreciative for your support and helping get the word out to your friends. The difference between a successful launch in a few months (fingers crossed) and a so-so launch is basically in your hands. Steam gives exposure to games based on interest and activity immediately post launch. So the more interest that builds leading into the launch (and the more wish list people there are), the better.
Here’s a link to the game trailer (also available on the steam store page along with some other screenshots).
2 months. what am i ever gonna due during the wait
Done. So is September 29th the actual release date then? I’m super excited to play!
Maybe…
I had to put some date to fill out all of the steam info, so I put Sept 29. When I published the store page, they slapped that date on the store page. I’ll be honest, I panicked a little bit and froze up for about 20 seconds when I saw that. Now I can change it, but… to what? So, I’ve left it.
I hope to hit that date… truthfully I could probably release the game next week and it would be more stable and complete than half the games I’ve bought recently. But, I hope to have all story missions and steam achievements in place by the end of Sept, and those things just eat up a lot of time.
Thanks for explaining Virgil!
Thats right round my birthday. I’ve booked a week off work, was supposed to go visiting friends, think I might maybe possibly have to cancel….
At least there’s one developer who doesn’t let the bugs into the final game
I’d be more than happy to buy an “Early Access” version to play now, even if you are still fine tuning it and are finishing the story missions over the next few months.
If it’s anything like the other games you have done, most of the playtime will be on random or custom maps anyways. Not saying I don’t love your missions, just that I like playing tons of different maps. I wonder how soon it’ll be before someone makes a “play as particles” template =P
The creeper fans wont mind the date too much, as they know the replayability value and quality of the previous games in line. Keep in mind the general rather toxic atmosphere on the steam forums tho. You only have one launch, so it _must_ be done right. Better “slip then sorry” with the date.
Then, virgilw, you are on a level beyond what most “Greenlight” games are on. They are ridiculously buggy and usually pretty terrible. It’s a chore to wade through the yuck on there and I hope that this will get the attention it will deserve. And it sounds like it is up to US on here. So get out there and do this simple thing to help him!
If it’s as good as ANY of your previous games, it deserves some spotlighting on Steam.
Just let me know when I can preorder and give you my money. 😉
Just had another thought, can you do a quick update to Creeper World 3 to put an advertisement of sorts on the main menu that points to the page? That would help to get some more support from people who don’t obsess over this site like some of us. 🙂
i hope you didnt forget to put up a price. 😉
Thank God! So tired of crappy unfinished games…take your time.
Early access was the worst idea ever.
Well, even if you miss that date, it sounds like you might be releasing in the fall, along with Civ 6 and Sister Location. Tough competition, but I’m sure you’ll manage all right! _thumbs up_
Holy cow. How does this just happen to be on my birthday? xD
Can’t wait, Virgil!
😀
clarification; this post is on my birthday
Done and done! on my wishlist waiting for the day it’s live!! Good luck on the early HYPE!
Shuttup and take my money!!!!
😉
Seriously, though. Can’t wait. Looks awesome. Added to wishlist and will be buying on release-date. 😀
It’s on my list! I see September 29th is the posted date, I guess we’ll see how that holds up. So close, and yet so far. I don’t want to wait xP
So, when is the pre-order?
HYPUH. Prepare for a cash influx on september 29th virgil. You’ve earned it several times over.
Added.
Also, my first reaction while watching the trailer:
“WTF DID THAT THING JUST DEPLOY A PARTICLE NUKE?”
I’m more hyped for this game than for Witcher 3, Technomancer, and the next Elder Scrolls combined. Cannot wait! Wishlisted.
Virgil, have you settled on a price for Particle Fleet? Or even a range?
Looking forward to it!
Stan
If it comes down to it, the price will most likely range around the original CW prices. Hopefully.
I am more excited for this than I am for World of Warcraft: Legion
and considering the current state of WoW, and how good Legion looks, that is saying a lot
your previous games set a really high bar, but im sure you climbed so far above it that you didnt even know it was there
Lovely, I’ve hyped this game to all my friends and they will get it one way or another. Always loved your games V, they resonate with me for some reason. PS you ever get a patron page? I would support you all the way! -J
I second the Patreon page! This is the main way I like to support the people who’s work I enjoy, and I definitely enjoy your work!
No pre-order button.
Life is agony.
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!!!!!!
Wishlisted. Can’t wait.
I’m curious… Have you created an application icon for it yet? Because if you need help, I could make it for you.
Just so you know, if your like me and like to do it through steam browser, it easy to find the game, just going to creeper world 3 store page, and clicking knuckle cracker for the developer, has both games on there.
Also done, added to wishlist, and telling others.
Bummer. September is when I start my 10 month programming boot-camp. 14 hour days… wonder if I can squeeze in a little particle fleet instead of sleeping.. Hmm…. >.>
That’s a no-brainer – wishlisted! Now it’s just 3 months of wait. Unless there comes a beta invite… ^^
Hell yeah! That was awesome, and that was just the trailer! Interesting to see what theme the story will be. It seems to be like the CW2 story of discovery and massive war, with the desperation cranked up. This may be one of the only games I pre-order because I am confident in its quality. Good luck, and hope you don’t encounter any unforeseen problems!
Also, the biggest reaction I had to the trailer, “OMG that (level, particles, ship, etc.) is MASSIVE! You didn’t raise the bar, you threw it into orbit!”
Creeper World 3 has the highest “hours played” on my Steam account by a loooooong margin – clearly this has gone straight on the wishlist!
Just to check, there’ll be a Linux version, right? 🙂
it’s cool
i have a question, do you make demo version?
wish listed, gimme gimme now!
That video looked epic with all the music. When i saw the ship editor, I was reminded about something I had been thinking about. Will the custom maps be able to have the ships available changed to whatever the creator feels like?(like custom ships)
Any map can be played with any ships. So a custom map will come with whatever the author put in. THe player can play with those, or choose to play the mission with any ships of his choosing.
ok sweet
If you’re using it as a gauge of interest, should I hold off adding it to my wishlist if I don’t plan to get it on launch? I know it’s something I’ll be getting at some point, but it likely won’t be right then. (This is mostly just due to probably not having the time to play it around then, and I’d rather not have it in my Steam library tempting me.)
Add it to the wishlist even if you won’t get the game at launch. The wishlist is an indicator of some future potential sales, not necessarily all just at launch.
83 days before release!
W-Wait, you play as the Ticon? *mindsplosion*
You got my vote…or Wishlist and I am Following as well. Don’t know if that matters but I did it anyway. Everyone better get in there and do the same!
Can’t wait to do a Let’s Play of this!
When are we going to see action in a mission, virgil?
I probably won’t post any videos of a story mission prior to launch (spoilers an such). I may yet post another video of game play, though.
Doesn’t have to be a STORY mission. I, personally, wouldn’t mind seeing another DMD map.
Me too.
A story trailer/teaser would be awesome, though.
Virgil, that looks awesome. I’ve added it to my Steam wishlist.
One small thing jumped out at me… the lasers look like they’re still placeholder art. I don’t know what else I’d expect to see… maybe color? or bits of ghost vapor from the previous laser while the next laser is firing? I kind of like the lasers in Elite and Eve.
That said — I’m more interested in the story and gameplay than in the graphical effects.
Yeah, they could still stand some visual attention. A fading ghost line is a good idea….
Ha! Let’s see the Imperator choose a side now.
Looking better and better as always.
So Virgil, I know this is probably a little early to ask this but, what are you going to focus on next (after particle fleet emergence)? A sequel? A prequel? A 4th game in the creeper world series? A new game entirely? It would intrigue me and probably a lot of others to know what you are going to do next(or at least thinking of doing next). Also, how many people have the game on their wishlist?(I know you told us there was a new steam page for it only like a few days ago but still…) Additionally, I would like to thank you Virgil for taking the time to answer the comments of your videos and post regular videos(even if they are a month or so apart)as I’m sure a (solo)game developer like you must have a pretty busy schedule. Lastly, I’m sure I speak for the whole knuckle cracker community when I say, the game you are about to release looks amazing and we are all patiently waiting for it(some more than others).
So for that, thank you Virgil.
I don’t know what’s next…. I have a handful of areas to explore and a few crazy ideas I’d like to experiment with. What happens with PF, what ideas pan out… all of that will be decided in the 6-9 months after the PF launch and determine what I should focus on next.
Wish list counts? Steam lags a day (or more) on the wishlist totals, but in the first 2 days (roughly) there were around 1100 wish list additions. That’s basically the number of people that were reached with this blog post. As time draws closer more and more people on steam will see the game in the “coming soon” section. I’ll also have picked up more and more people through news posts on the CW3 steam page, etc. So, off to a good start…
Seeing some more Chopraider would be pretty cool. Would there be any possibility of a sequel there?
Yeah, I think about that more than I like to admit. I may yet find an excuse or a place to work on it…
You know, I’d pay for a sequel to Chopraider. Doesn’t even have to be TOO much extra, just more story, tbh.
I’d imagine that with some tweaks to the game play, later installments of PF could end up being PVP, whether two plus players are both human or one is of the particles. Within the story, you could have a rouge faction of the humans and fight having two enemies that happen to be enemies (particles or rouge unless you are rouge). You could even give options on what side the player might even be on. The possibilities are endless XD.
Any chance of press keys in the coming month at all Virgilw? Been following since it got announced at the beginning of last year! Been really wanting to put a few videos out on it!
Yes… any professional previewer / reviewer is welcome to a press key. I’ve already had a few contact me and at some point in the next month or so I’ll be releasing a press beta for preview. That’s the plan, anyway.
OK, on wish list. Now here is an idea.
A beta is sold to those who buy multiple copies now. 2,3,4! Those extra copies can be distributed to friends upon release.
Reasoning:
1. It shows financial interest from those, who support what you are doing.
2. Increases the number opening sales.
3. Happy beta players.
I am an accountant, we typically are all about “show me the money.”
Hey! I am trying…..83 days is like 2 years to a dog. Yet another useless argument, but, hey it might just work on Virgil.
I thought about everything from kickstarter to early access to pre-sales. But CW1 and CW2 funded CW3 and CW3 has funded PF (give or take). So I just decided to do the whole thing the old fashioned way again…. Or at least I’m trying to do it that way. We will see about this Sept 29 date I accidentally released on steam 🙂 I have a feeling I’ll still be tweaking the game after that date. But I’ll do my best to make it.
Will there be a beta?
Yeah, I’ll be expanding the beta in the next month or so. Mostly for platform validation and identifying other kinds of problems I don’t want to deal with on launch day.
My whole family is waiting on this game. I wish listed it. I plan to buy 2-3 copies. Me my lil bro my dad. Might be to complicated for my grams but she really enjoyed the CWs.
That’s awesome to hear. Tell your grams to keep an eye out for the updated CW1 and CW2 that will be coming to steam (and non steam) later this year.
I have smth on my mind, that bugs my for a while now. When I start my daylie CW3 session with the new Colonial Space maps, the game starts in the middle of my two monitors. Its not a big thing. But I could imagine, that its a thing, you wont like, when I see the love you put in your games.
I just wanted to say it once, so you have a chance to maybe fix it on CW3, but make shure it wont be that way inPF. 😉
I’m so hyped!!!!
(Btw. over 1k hours of playtime of CW3 ;D;D)
One thing more, to all the awesome map makers out there:
I would love to play some more PAC maps again, but I don have the time to make some myself.
I would appreciate it a lot if some of you guys would do me the favor 🙂
I hope that doesnt sound too addictive ;D
That’s a unity thing and they have fixed it in their more recent builds. So it is fixed in PF and will also be fixed in CW3 once I rebuild it with the latest unity… which I plan to do around the time of the PF release. Picking a nice and stable unity 5 release has become more difficult in the last year so I have to take precautions when choosing what version to release with.
You could always do a beta branch, and make a steam community post for testers…. I’d hop right onto it, personally.
Hey Virgilw, will we be able to buy the game directly from you (like before your games were on Steam) so you get more money?
Yep, PF will also be available for direct sale just like the CW games.
In that case, will we also be able to link it to our Steam accounts? Like you did for CW3?
Looks Great! I already have a few ideas for future maps i could make! One of them will have a custom ship module! (That is if it is even possible)
Will there be concept images on the wiki like creeper world 3? Because it is a very good source to get images for CRPL/PRPL Cores!
I was actually thinking of that recently.
Just to clarify, i mean particle fleet concept images for the wiki like creeper world 3 has.
Probably… at some point I’ll put up the graphics and other module images.
V,
What programming language are you using?
C# and the Unity engine.
I have a question but I am not sure if I can set it right. Prepare yourselves.
At 2:00 I watched the Varro battleship in action and I was wondering:
I suppose that ships have a max supply of X energy packets per second (the green line of energy), but what if they need more?
ex. Can you supply a battleship with 10 or more MK7’s? Each needs a small line of energy but if all of them fire simutaniously and repediatly, a continuous line of energy may not be enough.
The real question is if this limits big ships, and if not how can this be resolved.
Wow, I spent 20 minutes to write this!
It’s a fairly complex thing. Energy can come from onboard tanks, supply drones, other supply ships, energy mines, and onboard reactors. If a ship is really large and loaded with very energy heavy modules and it also has a limited source of energy (say only an energy mine), the ship can definitely ‘starve’. On the other hand, all of the other sources might ensure it doesn’t. Just all depends….
I think the question here is, whether you can build ship that CAN’T get enough energy, even with unlimited sources – like thor in CW3 – if it’s shooting all weapons, it’s always at 0 energy.
Hey Virgil! I’ve been following you since extremely early on when you release CW1. It caught my attention first from the flash game you released to preview it. I looked further into it and saw it was a full game as was very happy with what I had purchased! this was a long, long time ago. I’m 19 now and I have been excited for quite some time about this new game you are making! Everything from creeper world one from gameplay being the small things EG the way the grid works (CW 1 has its own unique charm from the rest. 2 was different for sure, but far from bad) to the story which was a seat tipper through and through. It was a fantastic rush and I can’t wait to see what particle fleet entails! I’ve been very excited for a long time now, enough that I’ve saved up over 100$ to buy me and many of my friends if applicable copies. How much do you plan to sell your masterpiece for? Will you be kind enough to give fans of your work as loyal as I hope I can call myself a chance to buy your game in early access form on steam or something? Honestly, seeing you having worked so hard on this and seeing it look so great today just gave me a real big smile. Something I kind of needed today. I want to let you know despite my messy format and everything that I support you dearly! I am extremely excited for the final product and I wish you the best! I’ve spread the word of your game on various formats be it facebook, all over skype and even to my steam and discord friends. I hope it helps, and I hope we see something great! Keep up the hard work. I’ll stay a fan forever if you keep making such fantastic games and such! I’m rambling at this point aren’t I? None the less, I, DIO am very proud to have supported you so strongly for so long and will continue to do so!
Kono Dio Da~
Thanks for the kinds words…
Price wise I don’t announce anything till it is final. But you can expect something similar to CW3.
I don’t plan to offer a pre-sale at this point, but by all means add it to your steam wishlist (even if you will buy direct).
No need for a sale. I think most of us are happy to support you at full tilt price.
Added to wishlist and definitely wishing for it soon!
At 1:20 I saw a button that says “CORPORATION IN THE GAME”. What does it do?
It the green one at the bottom-left corner.
Ok, i got one more question. Can an enemy particle ship builder structure, build multiple ships? Because i have a really neat map idea that makes little, tiny ships that don’t have an engine module, and they park them selves nearby a progenitor!
so are you going to pash bugs??
It is unwise to fix that which is not finished.
2 Months .. i will going to die.
Need … this … game … >.<
I hope you’re planning to post videos of missions like for creeper world 3!
Also, will there be multiple gamemodes like in CW2? Thinks like survival, elimination, etc.?
So here is an interesting question we all might want to know.
Do you prefer us to purchase the game through steam. Greater exposure.
Or buy from you directly, I would assume greater funds in your hands.
It might be good to have a plan as to what works best for you.
It’s all good… whatever is easier and more comfortable for the player. Even when purchasing directly, I anticipate most people turn around and get a steam copy (you get a steam key when purchasing directly).
I wanna korean introduce too ;(
I play creeper world 1,2,3 and clear all story, and introduce to my friends but they don’t play way?
“only English” ㅠㅠ 슬프다

Was thinking about this other day, at this point I think you have a fairly loyal player base. Don’t hurt yourself to make the steam deadline. Post an explanation on your greenlight/steam page what happened and I think that could buy you a lot more time/patience from the people who are going to automatically buy your game/[ creeper world 4 :)] when you release it.
