I get more than the occasional question asking “what’s up?”, or “when is the update coming out?”. So I thought it best if I start posting semi-regular status updates. Nothing fancy, just what I’ve been up to and what is in the works.
So, yes “Update 1” to Creeper World 2 is coming soon now. I’ve incorporated some of the feedback I’ve received and added a number of neat things to the game. Group selection and numbering and group control are coming. There will also be a new ‘vacuum’ mode on the Creeper Maker. Lots of fun to play with.
Importantly, there will be “Code” missions. Enter a code string of your choosing and map will be generated for you. There are billions of combinations and you can also control the size and complexity of any map. The difficulty can range from trivial to pretty durn hard. There will be plenty of maps for all skill levels and interest.
I’ve also been working on a second promotional video to feature on the web site. Something to show the variety of game play to expect in the game. Videos are a real pain to make… I like to match the action to the music, so it takes lots of patience to match recorded video to the music cues.
Good to know that you’re doing good, and that Code Maps will be also difficult, because they weren’t at all in CW1.
Aren’t code maps basically Chrono Missions?
No, because chronom, there you make a date and create a map from that. In code i could write: “iaoshfkjcxvhxcjkkfd” and get a map. And also code maps mare harder to generate than chronom, because of artifacts and gateways and phantoms, Etc…
It is much harder to come up with algorithms that generate playable maps in CW2. I have to create caverns, put emitters and gateways in them, put in artifacts, add fields, create drones, phantoms….
You will find some of the Code missions to be fairly difficult…. and some of them to be very easy. But in both cases they are a bit more varied than chronom maps.
But, the custom map editor will still come along next and then all manner of insanity will break loose.
do we have to wait for the movie to get the update or is it seperate?

Yay, regular status updates! Anyways, what did you decide on the “vacuum” mode of the Creeper Maker? Convert to ore, Storage, or a hybrid? Most people chose Hybrid, I think. Btw, do you have a rough estimate of when the first update will be released? you said somewhere that it was in weeks/months, so is it now in days/weeks, or (I doubt it, but) hours/days?
I’m trying to produce a release candidate build this week. So ASAP… sooner rather than later is my goal.
Semi-regular updates will be fantastic. I think it will avoid lots of spam in the comments and repetitive questions. It’s a great step, and I love it when a developper has a blog with regular updates. Thanks 🙂
If I have group of 20 units and i wish to “deactivate” then I need 20 times click deactivate button. This is bug.
This is what I mean by “group control”. This has been added in the update that will be out soon.
Super. You can add drawing rectangle for select unit inside rectangle like in RTS games.
If I bulid repulsor and change rotation and bulid new repulsor i will be good if the new repulsor use setings for last modyfication. This is good for easy bulid. OR You can use efect like in beacon bulid i mean if You bulid beacon then small mouse move change rotation for beacon AND for example if the mouse button is still pressed then mouse move can set repulsor for small medium or long. You can use both of these ideas.
This ideas You can use for others unit.

Possibly, if you have one of the units with settings’ build selected, to let you set the initial settings. Also, i would like the option to pause the construction of all structures, in-case i manage to go into deficit, but already have a significant amount of progress to building something and don’t want to lose it.
I had an idea for an energy chart that shows what is using energy and how much, etc. Maybe like a pie chart or bar graph? This would help me at least (probably other people too) knowing exactly how my energy is being used. So maybe not this update, but a later one this could be added?
A bit too late now, but something like a promotional video showing off the game could probably be done by the game community. I am always impressed by what people in a game community can do.
If a group of people got together and did a really cool video, I’d be glad to host a link to it as a third video.
On the gameplay video, i think it would be best if you use the customized panel at the bottom, like when you select one of the weapons it has loads of settings that you probably use for development but it might make new people think that the game is much more complicated than it is, and it might put some people of buying it. Just a tip 🙂
