It’s been forever since my last blog post. I’ve been heads down totally focused on getting CW2 ready… and the time is nearly here. Patience for just a little while longer… In the mean time, here’s a screenshot of an interesting mission. Who said worlds had to be left in one piece to be liberated?

My goodness, this looks absolutely amazing. The creativity going into Creeper World 2 far surpasses all expectation. I simply cannot wait.

I look at this and all I can think of is “Why hasn’t he moved the assault ship for use as a portable beacon?” I think my thoughts on this matter have been skewed.
Believe me, it’s looks better and the gameplay is great (much more versatile). You’ll all love it! 🙂

What are the jellyfish things?
There is no downward gravity on this map… but there are attraction fields around each asteroid. So creeper will flow towards and stick the the asteroids.

So can you choose if gravity is on or off? And you can add separate gravity to specific areas?

Is there a show fields button? If so could you add a picture of the map with them shown?
There is a button… and a map maker can decide whether it is shown or not.
so thats why you can build at all angles.
The directions allowed for building is controllable in the editor. The default is “only down”. But you can make it legal to build in any of the 4 directions… or just some of them. You can also control the force of gravity… so you can turn it off or make it push with varying amounts in different directions.
So yes, you could make an upside down map if you wanted to (gravity up, and you can only build upside down).
Could the light from beacons weaken as it gets farther away and packets that go through weaker light move slower?
Not a bad idea, but this would increase the complexity for the player and could be a bit more frustrating.
You could use that in an ‘Expert Mode’ of some sort and work on it as an update so we don’t have to wait longer for the original release.
dear virgil: take your time with this game because when you do release it i hope there will be the least amount of bugs possible. Also can you put this up on steam?
You should see the list of items identified and fixed over the last 6 weeks…
And I agree… I like to release really stable software not just throw something out there to fish for money. I’m a strong believer in making sure players get their money’s worth… and then continuing to deliver updates over time so that everyone who purchases feels that it was money really well spent.
Steam’s a possibility… it mostly depends on the fans and how many email they send in to steam asking for it the be carried on their network.
how is gravity working?
Can you make many different polls with some sort of beacon or is it just dependant land mass.
if you destroy a piece of land the creeper is on, where does it go?
Maps have gravity and that can be set in varying amounts of up/down and left/right. It can also be turned off… as in this map. The creeper sticks to the asteroids because I created field containers around each asteroid that all point in towards the asteroid.
This system give you the flexibility to make some really sweet maps. Some good examples of some interesting/fun/hilarious/unexpected maps will be included with the game.
also, why is there a big blob in the center of the map?
That’s a little experiment that the Creeper was performing….
Where would gravity be in this map. Would the creeper still go towards the bottom of the screen?
Gravity is off.. but fields exist around each asteroid to direct the creeper inwards.
correct me if im wrong but does the different land masses have its own gravity to pull in creeper and have you still stuck to the editor for the story missions because i love making maps in creeper world 1 and the things that you have hinted that might be in the editor seem brilliant!!!!

You can see artifacts, ore, etc in the unlit areas.

If you are talking about that giant hollowed out asteroid at the top… those are some constructs that you don’t want to meet.
Really looking forward to this, can’t believe how long i’ve been enjoying cw1 for. Quick Question: how do the CPU requirements compare to cw1 for cw2? I like to play on a netbook mostly which is only just OK, be great if I could still do the same for this.
CPU requirements are on both sides of CW1. By that I mean there are plenty of maps that require _less_ cpu time believe it or not… but the game also scales and allows big maps with lots of things and those can require more CPU cycles. Some of the beta testing has been done on netbooks, so you should be in good shape.
That looks awesome, so every rock makes gravity, Will there be orbital things, maby space ships of a sort?
The creeper can take “solid” form and move around… so perhaps.
Its really surprising just how much more creative you can be with this view vs. the birds eye view of the first one, and to think I didn’t like it at first…
I’ve been pleased so far with the possibilities. Fields really kick things up a notch… and I’ve been having lots of fun just making maps to play with.
Idea for CW3…. now that all the creeper is gone, we have to fight off the rogue AI that covers all the planets with mines, energy pods, etc. We can call it “CW3: Here we go again” 😀

Awesome. Keep up the good work! I finished up CW1 on double down a couple of weeks ago. I can’t wait for the next one!
Wait, guys, wait… There seems to be a slight pattern. Right now, it seems that virgilw is making a new blog post every month, some time near the 8th-10th. So, if it follows the pattern, he’ll have it released near April 9th. It would be even better if he can release it early, but I don’t want him to make a fake file on April 1st and have it say “HAHAHA APRIL ****ING FOOLS JACKA**!!!!”. Although, that would be funny.
Also, what information *can* you tell us about those floating jellyfish? Do they explode and release creeper? Are they a portable creeper factory? Do the creeper make them to fire creeper lasers at your structures?? Now, my intention is that whenever I see one of those things, I’d be inclined to place 20 laser turrets and 15 rockets around it, and whatever else you have for me to blow it back to hell. Oh well. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Those bad guys can be either a minor annoyance, or your true undoing. They can come as individuals, or as an unstoppable wave that will take more that you ever believed you could muster to stop them.

Are the weird jellyfish looking things drones? I heard about something called drones blowing up sheilds if they touch them in a previous post. THE GAME LOOKS EPIC! I have to truly say that I know CW2 will be better than CW1 (which is almost impossible!).
Ok, so if I’m not mistaken about the way the gravity fields work I could make a map with no gravity at all and it would almost be like playing birds eye view? Also you mention the fact that you created field containers around each of the asteroids, will it be possible for those to weaken or vanish mid game as you mine out land? or will it be impossible to add a feature like that?

I think rembering from the ending of CW1 that they are what “The Old man” talked about that made the creepers and killed his races

I think you are on to something so perhaps the other “realities” they peered into are the reason for the gateways: to allow things to come into this “reality”

It’s in the final polish stages with some balancing and fine tuning…. so it’s coming very soon. And when it’s released that will just be the beginning. It will get updates over time to add more missions, game modes, etc. So the party is just about to get started!
what would happen if you tried to create good creeper in a no gav area?
Creeper created in a no gravity map will spread uniformly in all directions at the same time. Kind of like the top down view in CW1.
It appes those jellyfish things are using the portal to get out of the creeper. Can you send your own weapons through those portals to attack the creeper?

You mentioned that there were containers around each asteroid providing the ‘gravity’. Presumably it would then be possible for a creeper deposit left along long enough to grow beyond the field boundary and simply expand in space?
Would that be whats happened with the large circular blob in the middle? If thats the case, why has it done that? Shouldn’t it still spread out from the asteroid in a relatively even manner?
Finally, I see an asteroid covered in creeper with no spawner on it, but a nice little gate looking thing. Creeper portals? Very cool.
I can just imagine a cupped shape area of land withstrong gravity fields pushing into it… Then take out the flour 😀

Is their a limit to creeper density? In CW1, it was 5 elevations, but their are no elevations anymore. So, how deep can a pool get?

So what you say is that asteroids have their own gravity field. Does that mean that when creeper gets denser, it generates its own gravity? (Thinks of creeper bomb, when you blow a hole in the mid of creeper, it will spread out!) and you already have a gravity beam, but will gravity bombs also excist? As when it shoots somewhere like the grenade launcher from cw1, it generates a temporarily gravity field?
No. The asteroids each have their own gravity because fields were made around them in the level editing process. So if you destroy all the blocks on an asteroid, the creeper will still flow into the the area. So creeper can’t make it’s own gravity, but you could make a floating glob if you wanted to.
I would like to know. What if all the blocks in an attraction field were destroyed? I understand in the screenshot you have indestructible blocks.
Would the attraction field just cancel out and the creeper is affected by normal gravity?
Considering the lowest jellyfish looks like it may have only just come into range of two blasters id say that they don’t look like some kind of unstoppable god machine on their own, however if it took two blasters to damage one then that huge mob at the top would take 20-30 blasters to remove minus any damage to any buildings.
BTW i’m actually having minor panic attacks every morning hoping the game came out overnight, cant wait though.

Virgil, there is one thing that popped into my mind a while back. I remember reading a post on the forum where people were guessing what the Creeper was. I have guess, I just do not feel like making an account to submit it.
I am guessing that bad Creeper is like an extreme liquid flame of some sort. So hot that it destroys any buildings in its path. That is why it does not affect the ground. The ‘other reality’ mentioned at the end of CW1 could’ve been a reality of fire.
Good Creeper could be super-cooled Creeper. Somehow they managed to contain Creeper and study it, then replicate it with a cold temperature. That would also be why Good Creeper and Bad Creeper destroy each other. Hot plus Cold equals Steam…..
Have you actually played the game? After you beat Loki you find out what Creeper is. (If you haven’t beat Loki dont read this) “Creeper” is a degenerated form of Loki after they peered into other “realities”. Platius tells you that at the end of the game.

“When studying the creeper, things went out of control in the room when (insert antagonist name here) turned off the security to try an expirement. It kind of worked. Getting killed in the failed expirement, but the creeper came back. As it turned out, (insert antagonist name here) apparently wanted to make another creeper emitter. And that part was successful. But now, the creeper spreads, in its evolved form, as humans not only learned from creeper, but also the other way around…
If creeper is in the hollowed out space with no room to expand, is they no creeper emitted, will it break blocks, or produce outside of the wall?
The creeper gets denser. (hence the creeper density in the demo vid (the first one I believe))
It will continue to build up pressure inside the hollow area. Watch the Dev video 1. When there is a lot of pressure, it would be like squeezing a water bottle and the cap pops off. Water spews…
I think that you are asking what happens when the creeper is in a confined space… well, if you actually looked for the answer, you’d find it in hos first video posted to this blog about creeper world 2. It just keeps on building up. One thing about games, though, is that everything has a limit. Nothing is completely infinite, so any room must have a maximum capacity to it. When it reaches it (Might take a while with one weak emitter) it will just stop and no more will enter, even if it has an emitter in it. Or unless he programmed it differently. Then, god only knows what will happen.

LOL. So far, I’ve seen at least 200-300 different usernames on the blogs and here about creeper world 2. Virgil is going to make a lot of money when he releases it.
Also, creeper world 1 was very 2-dimensional. Creeper world 2 looks kinda like the 2.5 dimension, accounting gravity into every movement. So, like, you are viewing a 3-dimensional battle on a 2-dimensional plane. Which poses the question… will creeper world 3 be fully 3-dimensional? Because THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!
It feels like that it has been forever since you posted the “soon” thing (I know that it’s only been 1.5 weeks, but still)…. Could you post a new blog thing telling us the exact release date when it will exactly come out please? Like, say that you want it to come out on Mar. 26. Just post a blog telling us that it will be coming out on that date. Also, the time if you can, but I doubt that the time could be exact.

CW2 is still top or side view. But, yes… fields do create an extra and compelling aspect to the game. I’ve only scratched the surface of the possibilities in the missions so far. I can easily see 10,000 custom maps being created by players over the coming year and exploring concepts I never thought of.
And for everyone asking for an exact date…. not gonna happen. That’s bad luck in the indie game world and a sure fire way to irritate everybody. All I can say is the game is nearly done, and in the final refinement stages. A good indie game is like a fine wine…. and if you are old enough you might remember these well spoken words:

Fair enough, much as it frustrates me, I’d rather wait longer for a finished and polished product than have you rush something incomplete and unsatisfying out the door.
Another thing, on the last level, if you build the thor and conect all the totems, then destroy the thor just before they fill, the story ends but the game keeps going as if it was still being played. Can you explain this?
Well, that was just end of story mode. The additional levels doesn’t count as story.
yea i got this when i first finished loki, i thought i didnt need it and blew up everything as the portal opened even the thor, then it frose and i was annoyed

Well, if you don’t build it you get an Easter egg. However, that is a glitch, which prob is to small to matter to be fixed

cw1 is one of my favorite games, but cw2 looks even better.
Well, I hope it will be viewed as even better by most people. I think it is… but of course CW1 is still cool too and I still often play. I think that CW2 offers something that is ‘different’ yet still a proper sequel.

the jellyfish are probably from a Gateway, but they’re not phantoms.

I know it is little consolation, but I’m going just as fast as I can to get CW2 out. Down to working through the last three missions and some small tweaks. The QA period has been longer than I anticipated, but there have been some seriously cool additions during this time as well. Try to be patient just a bit longer… I’m doing what I can to make sure it is worth the wait.
HI, I’m sure that I’m as impatient as everyone else but PLEASE take your time. I’m very sure that the end product will be worth the wait. Nothing is more aggravating than to get what you want and then not having it work correctly. Microsoft should learn this lesson. You are doing a great job and I love CW1 and can’t wait to see how CW2 turns out. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to a wonderful and thrilling game.

I can only hope that it will be possible to change the background to something very very simple on any given map. Otherwise playing a map like that will not be fun.

12-15=game phase 1[works on game]
15-25=reply phase[replys to users]
25-end of month=game phase 2[works on game]
while this does overall predict what he would do,he does sometimes go outside the box.
