Nice, so this is what the average map will look like.
I still have a few questions though:

1) Is this building upside down and sidewards an upgrade, cause now it seems really hard to make a map where you must be energy efficient?
2) Do the repulsor beams cumulate? I know you said they didn’t, but in the screenshot it looks like the beam on the lowest repulsor gets a bit thicker?
3) What’s that thing below the microrift below the repulsors, I’d say a phantom gun, but there isn’t a gate to let phantoms pass?
4) What’s the thing just above the shaft right in the middle, it seems to be blocking the friendly creeper, and once more I’d say it’s a phantom gun but it looks a bit different and there still are no phantoms.
5) Where did all the good creeper come from? I can’t see creeper makers anywhere?
6) Are the graphics changeable? I mean, can you change the graphics of the buildings like the background? Cause I honestly prefered the old look of the reactors and beacons.

well this (awesome) picture certainly raises alot of questions about new buildings and things. this really shows how big these missions are going to get though with so many buildings crowding the map i feel like it might get tedious to build all of them. are all of those buildings at the top really necessary?

Three questions

1) Have you got a release data for it yet?

2) How much is it going to be?

3) What are the blue things dotted around the map?

I think it would be more interesting to only be able to build on the top of squares. Then it would be more like CW1, where you have to be careful about what you build.

17. Michionlion
Michionlion February 6, 2011 at 5:03 pm |

I think that building at all orientation should be restricted… but with some exceptions. also, i liked the first (or the one for both videos if you’ve had more then two) graphic for the reactors. It just looks less like the terrian and the second one looks sort of like dirt.

19. a thinker
a thinker February 6, 2011 at 6:24 pm |

Near the lower left corner there is a pool of creeper with no emitter. The one with all the blasters focused on it. Two questions about that:
1). In the center of the pool there is a weird little square That looks darker than the creeper around it. Is that just some weird affect of the creeper spreading out or something else?
2). Close to the lower right of the pool there is a yellow unit. What is that? It doesn’t look like a repulser.

20. a thinker
a thinker February 6, 2011 at 6:33 pm |

Oh in a second thought on my second question.
I see now that there is another one of those things just barely in the dark area. Considering it’s placement I would venture to guess that it is an artifact or something of the sort.
And to add another question:
At the top of that large area of good creeper there are some dense spots that appear to defy the gravity of the game. What just happened in that area of the field? It looks like someone just came and took a big cut out of the pool. To clarify, the dense area I am talking about in particular is in the middle of the right side under a tunnel packed with the tech facilities and reactors.

22. Link327
Link327 February 7, 2011 at 12:45 am |

I dont like this upside down building.
When i look at the screenshot, i noticed, that you wouldnt have a big deficit if you couldnt, most reactors are placed on top, or (why?) on bottom in a 1xX Ridge.(So you could build it normal on the floor below.
I would kile the idea make this upside down building buyable as technology.
But then really expensive πŸ˜›
And the graphics of reactors I really DONT like now, theyre really looking like dirt^^

23. Blaze
Blaze February 7, 2011 at 12:48 am |

Yes.

I think everything is perfectly fine, the new images, even the reactor, it looks like it covered in dirt is all, I think that nothing should go back to how it was, I think it’s awesome that we can build four buildings onto one terrain piece.

You have outdone yourself Virgil.

1. Michionlion
Michionlion February 8, 2011 at 10:51 am |

there are no collectors anymore. refere back in the blog

2. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 8, 2011 at 11:49 am |

There are no Collectors as you knew them in CW1. All energy is supplied by (cheap) reactors. There are Tech Domes that you need to collect tech upgrades.

The roles of relays and collectors in CW1 has gone away.

3. Blaze
Blaze February 8, 2011 at 12:21 pm |

For one, there will be no collectors, for two, reactors will be as far as I know right now, your only way of getting more energy.

will ore deposits with ore rigs on them “run out” of ore?

27. Link327
Link327 February 8, 2011 at 3:54 pm |

when i build a CW2 map which will, if I want , last REALLY long, like an hour. There could be a possibility to make some ore deposits “endless”. If you havent much space and not so much ore deposits. So will there be a possibility to make that? How can i change the “amount” of ore in the editor, or are there only “large, medium, small” types?

1. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 9, 2011 at 10:21 am |

The amount of ore is a discrete number.

However, ore does not make a map “last,”, except under one very special circumstance that I am not telling you about. In most cases a map can be finished with any amount of ore left on it.

2) If people can customize colors and background can we have an option to turn off custom colors/art in maps?

I see that you have more than 10000 score. Is this due to a higher starting score, or to collecting gems faster than you lose score?

Either way, I have a suggestion about these gems. If they are always worth the same number of points even if you collect them near the end of the game, there would be no reason to worry about them until you have had time to build up and getting them would not increase your overall time much at all and getting them becomes a given. However, if their value decreases later on in the game, it can become worthwhile to get them sooner rather than later and adds another element to high-scoring play. One way to accomplish this might be to set them as worth a specific percentage of your current total score. If you get one 1 minute in, you would earn 50% more score than waiting 15 minutes before chasing after it. It also makes deeper gems that require more energy to get worth more at the end of maps where earning an overall profit is possible. This suggestion is probably best suited for more valuable gems. For example*, suppose there are 15 gems strewn about a story map. You must kill all creeper to win, so placing gems in places guarded by creeper is effectively a moot point when gems are worth a constant amount as you get to them later anyway. If you set each of these gems to be worth 3% of your current score, this is no longer the case. You must consider the ideal time to attack any given pool of creeper and route through the level much more important. Consider someone who focuses on building up energy rather than earn score and so finishes very quickly. Suppose they collect the gems right as they finish at the fifteen minute mark. Then consider someone who focuses less on building up, and tries to advance as they build, and collect one gem each minute until there are no more gems to collect, and finishes 5 minutes later at the 20-minute mark. Who has done better? I would likely vote for the person who took longer. Despite their longer time, they worked hard to push through the level at a constant rate even with less energy. With a constant score given for each artifact, they clearly lose by 5 minutes. However, with a 3% value assigned to each gem, they win 10517-10375.

*I am assuming the score formula is:

where the bracket-looking things represent the floor function.

1. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 10, 2011 at 8:25 pm |

One thing that argues in favor of collecting gems early – they give you a nice energy boost – near the beginning of the game, picking up an extra 60+ units of energy can be a life-saver! So early digging for a gem may be a winning strategy.

35. Aperson
Aperson February 9, 2011 at 9:14 pm |

wow, will it be possible to draw terrain in game, for energy cost?

that was my question from before, sorry for not being clear!

1. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 10, 2011 at 8:26 pm |

But no, you can’t add terrain. Once you dig it out or it decays from the creeper, it’s gone.

1. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 10, 2011 at 8:27 pm |

Once a shield is built, it just sits there – no energy drain, no decay, unless bad creeper touches it or it explodes from being touched by drones.

if creeper reach the micro rift it will flow to the others micro rifts or it will destroy the rifts?

because where is only one micro rifts on the game which you explain, and because of that explication the creeper should flow for the others rifts

1. Karsten75
Karsten75 February 12, 2011 at 2:34 am |

As Virgil already explained, creeper does not flow through rifts. There are quite a few rifts in the map above. One is near the Assault Ship (I like to call it the Sitting Duck, since it is completely defenseless – not quite an assault ship IMHO! πŸ™‚ ). The other rifts are distributed through the map – look carefully. Finding things on this map is like playing the “Where’s Waldo?” game.

Bad creeper will destroy rifts, good creeper doesn’t.

What it actually reminds me of is the “Space Game” because you build little power producers and networks of relays and power your turrets and stuff just like creeper world, but you’re fighting off ships that shoot back instead of creeper. ~ will you make the game editor have the ability to change the color of not just the creeper, but also structure/friendly creeper?

~ O, and about the music! I LOVE the music in the demo video. Is it possible to make the music change when criteria are met in the game? For instance, having it become more intense as you go deeper? Wanted to draw attention to the fact that the music of the game is a powerful element, equal to discussed structures and what have you.
Awesome!
looking forward to the C2 experience!

In the first game map editor, you could choose to let the player be able to move Odin City or not be able to. Will the same option be available in this map editor?

Can’t wait for the game to come out!!!!

And if you could improve the map editor, because in the other day a was creating a map with a line full of creepers emitters and they appeard at the center and i drag everyone of then to the spot and that was annoying.
In this map editor you could press a button and click on the map to put it but if you press shift you could put multiples.

Sorry for the bad english

Will the game be out soon? I remember seeing somewhere that you said it would be out in February.

Moving Odin City(or Assault Ship in CW2) is not necesarry in CW2. There are these rifts you forgot? Packekts, weapons, just everything except of Creeper can move through.
So why moving, in most of missions,(I played already some) you cant move OC/AS below the surface because the tunnel isnt big enough.
