[V-Buildings] P.F.L.E.M.S (PFLEMS) - Vertu

The Path.Finding.Laser.Emitting.Munition.System is a perfect example of Vertu engineering among the concept that size doesn't matter, and that small constructs typically have a very high capability compared to their size, something the Vertu Empire is quite fond of.

The PFLEMS has unrivaled firepower, capable of vaporizing an effectively infinite amount of Creeper density in a small area. Only the Sweeper and Dark Beam have a rivaling amount of firepower. Though unlike those constructs which also use beam/laser based weaponry, the PFLEMS as in its name is a Path Finding Laser Emitting System, so unlike the stationary Sweeper and Dark Beam (which uses Dark Mirrors to direct beams throughout a mission), the Laser of the PFLEMS very tangibly path finds to its target, being fired up into space and then above the target location before coming down and striking. This is also why after the PFLEMS fires, it can swap targets before the laser lands as the Emitted Laser determines its own target, not the PFLEMS structure.

Overview

  • Fully automated targeting across the entire map, searching for the deepest Creeper currently on the map and launching an “orbital laser” to strike it when fully charged.
  • Almost infinite firepower within the Creeper World setting (which makes the use of infinity here actually a tangible number). Creeper has a maximum density throughout the CW universes which is about exactly 2,147,483,647 Relative Units. The PFLEMS has a vaporizing firepower of about 2,000,000,000 Relative Units.
  • Uses only Energy, required amount to fire is 100/100.
  • Requires 600 Energy to build. (As SHOCKING it is, this little thing DOES NOT NEED LIFTIC! Its primary functionality is based on standard concepts of energy rather than <REDACTED> which is a form of optimized energy storage. The PFLEMS does not need energy storage, it needs Direct Energy Weaponization).
  • Very small and compact.
  • Very efficient (quite easy to maintain at full performance).
  • Releases an EMP1) which stuns nearby units based on how much energy was stored within the PFLEMS upon destruction outside of a controlled and intentional setting. (Stun duration and radius is proportional to ammo stored upon system failure).
  • PFL can hit anywhere so long as the target and PFLEMS have Line Of Sight to space.
  • 7 HP.
  • Unlimited range in CW4 missions.2)

You may be wondering how in the realm of science can a laser actively path find. The Vertu Empire however has found a way and has used it to create not only the PFLEMS but also Laser Missiles. This is done by not actually using traditional Light Amplification by Stimulating Emission of Radiation. Instead, it uses Nanites housing (Light Amplification by Stimulating Emission of Radiation)s. The PFLEMS launches these Nanites (which have a very short effective range RELATIVE to Vertu standards) as well as a primary LASER (Now that you know that “laser” is actually a acronym) which charges those Nanites as they rush (or are already located) to/in the Exosphere or some path finding vertical displacement relative to the PFLEMS. The Nanites than path find to a location above the target and begin to stream down, preparing discharge energies and firing their individual lasers. This results in effectively an orbital bombardment of lasers and as less Nanites fire, the width of the bombarding “single laser” thins. The initial “expansion” of the fired PFLEMS laser is actually a redirector from the Nanites which become overcharged and reflect the laser back to the PFLEMS to then allow another Nanite to absorb that same laser component. This also results in a sudden absence of the emitted laser as the entire laser is absorbed by enough Nanites, causing what can be called a “Threshold Visual Effect”, resulting in the sudden “Disappearance” of the emitted laser from the PFLEMS you see yourself.

The PFLEMS uses an advanced energy storage system based on magnetism to store input energy for release. This energy is held very delicately and is in sense, raw energy. Should this energy be suddenly released due to containment failure, such as from structural failure by being hit by a Tactical Creeper Missile, it will result in an Electro Magnetic Pulse, overloading electrical systems in a radius for a duration proportionate to the energy released (and there for, stored on structural failure in this case).
This is a relatively minor concern as the PFLEMS has a VAST range and such shouldn't be placed in locations of danger. Its compact size also ensures it can be placed about anywhere within the sprawling infrastructure which should be already protected from threats.

2)
Fun fact: The range of a PFLEMS is estimated to be about 0.5 Light Minutes (8.994e+6 km) before the charge stored within the transporting Nanites dissipates enough for the orbital bombardment to be inefficient. See LORE for more details and context.
