Best of...  threads are a disease in game forums. Go look in ArmorGames and Kongregate. When someone wants to post and has nothing to say they start a Best of... thread.

wow, reading this is hilarious, and besides karston i dont copy maps unless im trying to recreate the maps that came with the game so that people can play them like they were a normal map

Copernicus was pretty good,. Ptolemy, and Anaximander were at the top of there Game in Greece, while Su Song was well known in China.
Muhammad al-Idrisi had an entire Atlas by 1154, certainly a note worthy achievement, but it was Martin Behaim, in 1492 that made the worlds first known Globe.

But I'd have to give the nod to Gerardus Mercator, he really knew a thing or two about making maps. ;)
