A strange anomaly has pulled Skars and Lia into a dimension once thought lost... This map is an unofficial sequel to Map #520: "Estrox", by Mikoz. Playing it is not required. While it may be my first map, it's one that's technically been in development for years.

Special Thanks:
Grabz, for introducing me to a much better scaling method.
WithersChat, for inspiring me to finish this with their Map #8331.
Arin112, for doing something similar.
PlanetFall, for kicking off the entire Buildable Custom Units concept very early on with their whole series.
Someone named Yellow, for testing and inspiration.
The entire KnuckleCracker community, for being super chill and an all around great collection of people. :)

Some minor bugs to report.

*Cannot save/load. On loading, the game stops all timers. thus no spore countdown, no packet movement, nothing.
*map is complete-able in 12 seconds.
*Nice story, but good grief the amount of text to get through to start is a lot, and *still* does not contain full information of how to play. It presupposes knowledge from previous creeperworld versions.
* Drone unit seems nice, but serves absolutely no purpose in this map. Tech demo only?

There is a lot of promise in this concept, but this is not a finished product by a long shot.

Good morning.
Always good to see new stuff, but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do (I know, more coffee).
Is the win condition to connect the Totems?
I'm trying to figure out what all these players are doing in 12 seconds, and nothing comes to mind.
Screen shot anyone?
Looking forward to learning how to play your maps.
Thanks,
H

You have to connect the totems (they lose ammo over time, so keep them powered)
The 9 seconds strategy:
Spoiler
land in the volcano. You can connect all the totems with 2 CNs and a collector.

So, my feeling about this map is "Great things, but clearly unfinished".
Explaination: The units, buttons,... don't react to cancel, but it's quite easy to make them react to it.
The drone can be built on any terrain, including not flat one.
The drone is not damageable by Creeper once it's built.
The crosshair stays where it is forever(or at least until you re-select the drone) if you use "Space" or "Esc" to unselect the unit while you're setting target.
The drone is not selectable while paused, but the building drone pad is.
@GBTM101 I sent you a save file with all these issues corrected (except the "damage by Creeper" one, I forgot) on the discord server.
Please continue the series, I can't wait for the next map with this system (hopefully with all the issues corrected)

No collectors needed, just 5 sec to finish :p

When actually playing as intended, the bombers are pretty fun though, much more interesting than the lackluster strafer.
Their ammo usage seems a bit low compared to the damage they do, maybe x2 would be good.?
(pro: unlimited range, cheaper ammo -- con, stops shooting while reloading, far more expensive to build)

having the totems be automatically set to "charge without forge" would help with the confusion of how to finish the map.

I suppose I should've explained a bit more. I actually do agree that the map, in its current state, is technically "unfinished." Several bugs I wanted to fix, features I neglected to implement prior to release... it's quite embarrassing, really. But I've had this map in the backlog for so long (even surviving the transition between two different machines) and my main goal was to prove it was possible to create a system for custom units mimicking what's already possible in the vanilla game. I had been putting it off for so long that I ultimately resolved to release it, no matter what condition the map was actually in, once I had everything, at the bare minimum, "functional."

For Part 2, should it exist, I plan to address several of these issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Implementing all of WithersChat's fixes.
  • Increased difficulty, no more being able to win in less than 10 seconds. I plan to change the win condition up entirely in future maps. Possibly taking cues from either CSM or Sleeper.
  • Significantly less exposition. Thankfully, being part of a series automatically presupposes you've at least got enough knowledge about the previous map to know what's going on.
  • Better conveyance of the mechanics and operations of custom units, connected to a custom button that can be activated at any time. This map assumed you played CW1 and knew how the Drones of that game operated, and how best to use them.
    "Drone Operation and Purpose"
Setting 3-4 drones to bomb the caldera effectively caps it off. The units are best used to bomb distant, deep pools of creeper, preferably surrounded by high terrain. This was their intended purpose in the map, but I left things open for a more traditional playstyle. It's ultimately up to the player whether or not they'd like to use them.

  • Fixing that nasty save/load bug that marvinitfox ran into. That's what I get for not testing thoroughly enough. Not as much of an issue on a quick & easy map like this one, but future maps will need it.
  • Potentially increasing the amount of ammo the drones use as per Lightforger's suggestion.

@101,
The best part about your post just above here is that you're going to put a fix on things and come back with some more fun for us.
There are never enough fun map creators and it's always great to see someone willing to put in the time.
Standing by for your next one.
Thanks,
H
