This topic is for discussion of map #7891: Breeder World

Author: Forkk
Size: 164x128

Desc:
This is a special map with no emitters, where the creeper grows on its own. Any cell on the map that contains creeper will increase by a small amount per second. This effect increases as you build mortars, sprayers, air units, and berthas, so you'll have to be somewhat smart with how you utilize your units. The win condition on this map is to eliminate all of the creeper on the map and nullify the spore towers. Oh, and watch out for spores. They will wreck everything.

Interesting concept.
Fun game to play (the second time) :).
Thanks,

Hard to believe that someone gave this a 1/10.
What the heck is wrong with some people?
I'd like to see what the 1 giver can do in the way of a map.

i really liked this map, the emitter free creeper is a great concept, and i enjoyed the map.

i guess i would advocate for some "calming" method too, if a player is losing ground and needs to withdraw and has a lot of weapons on map i can see this CPRL getting out of hand, and on massive maps it might be worth having it flow faster and increase slower, or again it could get really out of hand fast too!

i know, if it is poorly done then a low rating makes sense but just being unable to do it seems to be the bar for a lot of people :-\

personally i only rate them if i have either done them or have established a safe and dominant position and can't be bothered to grind out a few hours on a laggy map, and even then it's not like i give those maps a 1!

it has to be a zero effort achievement map to rate that, and i can't be bothered rating those ones anyway ;)

i gave this a 10  8)

Maybe its the complete lack of info on what the creep growth rate is?
Maybe its the balance, where 2 strafers cause greater creep growth than 37 mortars?
Maybe its the way a fleet of 20 strafers took the creep level to 3000+? in one sweep?

This map is either buggy, or has some *serious* balance issues.

Maybe it's a player who is so self-centered that, instead of going back in and modifying his OWN choices, he takes a cheap shot at the map maker on his way out the door.

i just went with a ton of blasters and did air-drop tactics, it was a slight shift of tactical thinking but hardly a major one like the CSM ones for example.

leaving a 1 seems a bit rough on a map that, though it may have some faults, is a great new addition to the various play styles of maps we have in CW3.

the onus is on us (couldn't resist, was 40 this year and have nephews now so i can do dad jokes ;) sorry if you don't like them!) as map players to encourage map makers who are putting in work, especially ones who are adding whole new mechanics to this multi-year old game, so i really think anyone giving this map a 1 or a 2 is being way too harsh, so i agree with Helpers sentiments on this.

constructive criticism about balance needs to be made, i too have questions about why some units create so much more creeper than blasters etc, and as i posted, about larger and longer maps.

but i will not be using such a hectoring tone in my posts to the author, instead i will try to be polite and pose them more as questions and soft suggestions.

i often manage to both tell a mapper why i dislike a map or CPRL action, and not come across as entitled while doing it.

we all make mistakes though, and in anger or frustration we make more, and faster, but i hope we can all try harder to not be unpleasant to the people around us, online or in person!

peace and love all  8) (might be getting old but still a hippie at heart ;) ;D )

edit: missed a "not"... which was a mistake but i think everyone got what i meant...

Had some trouble with this map myself, so here's the stats on the units:
Spoiler
        if (<-type "MORTAR" eq)
            <-addedGrowth 0.0125 add ->addedGrowth
        endif
        if (<-type "STRAFER" eq)
            <-addedGrowth 0.0125 add ->addedGrowth
        endif
        if (<-type "SPRAYER" eq)
            <-addedGrowth 0.025 add ->addedGrowth
        endif
        if (<-type "BOMBER" eq)
            <-addedGrowth 0.5 add ->addedGrowth
        endif
        if (<-type "BERTHA" eq)
            <-addedGrowth 0.1 add ->addedGrowth
        endif

If you want this map/mode to be taken seriously, you need to do these fixes:

1) MAKE THE CANNON COUNT AS A WEAPON!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is cheezy beyond belief that the cannon is excluded from the creep-inducing weapons

2) Fix the incorrect growthrate.
I checked again.
2 * strafers cause MUCH MUCH MORE growth than 37 mortars do.
They even cause more growth than 5 Berthas do.

3) Have some display of creeper growth rate visible, somewhere.

4) Consider making the growth a percentile growth of actual creeper, rather than the current add-a-lay-on-top method.

Well DUH!
Mapmaker excluded cannon from growth, so that approach is completely unopposed.

This map is *easily* beaten by using only the cannons.
At one point I had 300-ish of them stacked around, and the growth was still just 0.09-0.1 per sweep

Yes, I stand FIRMLY by my rating of 1
This map is a great concept, but the execution is f-ed up beyond comprehension

dude first, relax, it is just a game, seriously your approach is too full on for this.

second, you are not encouraging the map maker to make more maps (which we shoud all want), but instead you are making it more likely he gives up and moves onto another game, so please be nice and pleasant with constructive criticism, not aggressive demands.

third, we have all been passionate and made mistakes, the trick is to back down when others are telling you to chill and relax, give your behaviour and words some reflection and consideration, and then apologise for the heated tone you took in a situation that doesnt need hot tempers and angry exchanges.

i am not going to tell you to relax again, since if you don't you are clearly looking for an argument and i am not here for that, i just would prefer it if you were nicer to map makers and encourage them rather than get angry about how they make their maps.

you could have said all the same things in a much nicer manner, and asked the map maker to consider the changes.

and on top of all that this is the first map of it's type (i believe) and so it is bound to have some loopholes and balance issues, it is a prototype, and so we should be rating it on fun and potential, not hardcore gaming legitimacy really.

still you do you my man, just please do it a bit more chilled in these forums, it's not a free for all like youtube! ;)

some more peace and love is in order dudes!   8)

This thread got reported - people should chill. Mapmakers are entitled to choose how they make their maps. Even if it is annoying to some players, if it brings variety to the table, it is welcome. More than 3 explamation points in any further posts will have severeeee  consequences
