Phantom Coils were the response to the Spore-esque apparitions the Styglek used against underground human facilities primarily in the 2nd CE. Since then, the technology was used to break up large chunks of rock in space. With the resurgence of the Styglek threat, it has been put onto a ship whose namesake is an ode to the Phantom Coils of old.
