Desc:
A medium-hard map (only at the beginning, then it gets easier and relaxing) where your only landing space is surrounded by enemy structures and you must plan early fortified defenses. The map's strategy is very flexible and any good strategy would do it (I mean, most of my hard maps had 1-2 initial strategies that works). There's no CRPL cores - the previous map ("The Intruder" - posted today) left me with a big hadache with scripts. I also got a big upset because this simple map is much cooler.

Please wait for "Fortress Building - Harder Version" and "Fortress Building 2" !!

The difference:
"[...] Harder Version" will have exactly the same terrain, but will be a lot more challenging;
"[...] 2" will be a different map of the same style, but with another terrain, probably another layout (not a center hole as a starting point with mounts around, not symmetrical, etc. - I also would like your opinion about this), and can or not be as hard as "[...] Harder Version".

I'm almost on vacations so I'll create maps much faster!

Yeah nice map, I like the ones where your base is always under threat, keeps you alert and keeps the map challenging. The terrain did help though with defense:

I used the PZ for a reactor and then one sprayer set to always on in the middle, 4 mortor and 4 cannons were enough to hold the center without effort. I then attacked quickly to the SW as there are 5 ore mines and 3 PZs to free up, once these were secure it was fast progress around the map.

Hahah thanks! Didn't you firstly use a terp in PZ...?

(My idea was to initially use a PZ terp for being able to defend your base... this is something that I'll try to force the player to use in next maps)

I considered it to be too much of an energy drain and the threat was not great enough.
If I ever get a substanial amount of energy syphons at the start of the map I always assume that a very aggresive play is on the cards and use most of the energy to build reactors and to expand to get early footholds in key locations.

Yeah, I usually go reactor in a PZ at the beginning for extra building power. I didn't feel it was really necessary to terp but I did anyway - just a thin wall around the base, just in case. Once I saw the threat wasn't increasing I let it run for a bit while I did other stuff. I'm eager to try out your harder versions of this.
You disagree with this sentence, don't you?
