This topic is for discussion of map #3264: Factory DigiSupporter

Author: Pusillanimous
Size: 105x150

Desc:
An old factory, now subverted by the Creeper. Patches of seemingly unpowered Digitalis. And a surprise unit for those who don't rush the map. This is partially a test. Enjoy, and give feedback. Notes: The 'aircraft' in the opening conversation is a hint. The artwork is direct from the wiki's 'concept art' page, as I am not much of an artist.

I hate random death from the sky.  Fortunately this can be beaten quickly.

I took it slowly. And stopped enjoying it once emitters came to my base and just stood there until CNs took off (even while being submerged with AC). Dick move.

GoodMorning

Thank you for the feedback.

This was a test, and so is far from perfect.

The manufactured units are set to only go where there is already Digitalis, which (should) mean that they mostly stay at the top of the map. The Digitalis laying unit is strong (high health), but won't make Creeper on it's own.

In future, I will remove the MakeRain command, since you don't like it. (My opinion was that a robust network would make the rain an inconvenience, not a threat. But if it's more annoying than fun, it's out.)

The only way that Creeper should have been produced in your base is if the Digi layer unit came, and then another unit followed. This is unlikely, but currently possible.

All units other than the factory are destroyable by Beams. The Emitters should have been fairly destructible (though, as mentioned above, I need to take out the rain when they are destroyed.)

Any other feedback? I am trying to make something enjoyable and somewhat different.

If you put it that way, I guess you should leave it as it is - just next time let us(me) know to use beams.
As I said, I took it slow. Got myself 7 rows of reactors :P, row of sprayers, cannons and mortars. Didn't think about using other units, as it wasn't hinted in any way.

Please don't call people names  when they are nice enough to make maps for us.

My problem with random death is that it's random.  Therefore my score is based on luck not skill.  Plus it's a pain in the neck when your network is cut off by a surprise creeper rain.

I'm not a fan of cprl at all but I know this about user made units:   Methods of dealing with them may include

  • Nullifier
  • Beam
  • Sniper
  • Thor main cannons
  • Drown in a/c
  • Working around them because they can't be destroyed

Sometimes the maker may want players to figure out which, sometimes they will tell us.
I prefer the former when I am going for speed since I don't like wasting time and energy building a sniper (as I did) when it does nothing.

GoodMorning

Sorry, I must need to make the hints more explicit. I thought that saying "aircraft" in the description and intro would imply that beams were useful.

I didn't mean to waste time, although this map is heavily influenced by the random movements of the manufactured units.

If you can kill those random units (I haven't replayed the map yet), then it's just matter of stronger defense.

GoodMorning

The map isn't too hard to complete, provided that you understand that beams are useful, and can withstand the consequences. (Creeper rain. Make sure that your network doesn't concentrate too much critical infrastructure in one place.)

So here's actual feedback, after completing the map: moar hints plz. You don't need to specify "use beams", but just say "try different units" or something.
The rain...annoying bit, but didn't affect me that much. The map actually got too easy because of all the PZs. Once I killed first flyer with beams, I just put beam on PZ and everything died. Good map overall (-:
