Easy.  Ignore the nice fortresses, go for the land east of the walled fortress.  You get a lot more real estate to start from, it's a cakewalk.

Heh.  As one of my first stabs at mapmaking, I'm actually fairly happy with how it came out.  Though even now, just a week or so later...  I could likely do it better.
