Hey,

I've been having a system crash on the exit of some levels, it's recorded as kernal power event 41.

This has been an issue for me before, but it went away when I fixed a cooling issue - now it happens every time I click claim victory.

It's just a straight shutoff - power is cut with no BSOD or any warning, but it happens consistently when I click to finish a level. I got through the first two systems without issue, but once I started taking over about 10-15 mins to finish a level, it started happening - although I don't know for certain if it's related to the duration of a battle.

It seems to be a mostly hardware related problem, but some software can cause it - conflicting antivirus, someone had a problem with ComboFix etc. But it has now happened four times in a row on completion of a mission, so perhaps it's something in the game?

Presumably as a result, when I boot up again, the save files are gone, but I'm still orbiting the same planet. I can't fly back to any previous systems and the highscores are gone, but it will let me play the planet I've reached (the first with the digitalis), so perhaps its related to corrupted save files?

Any suggestions welcome - as it is I can't play the game!

QuoteAn underpowered or failing power supply may cause this behavior. For example, if you added RAM or additional devices or hard disks when this problem began, the power supply may cause the problem.

Hi

Yeah, I've already checked all of the obvious solutions - I've replaced my power supply, I've checked the ram, I fixed a cooling issue I had, it isn't a conflict with antivirus, my drivers are all up to date..

This problem had completely gone, but now it has returned and always exactly as I click to claim victory, so something in the game is triggaring the crash. I don't know what, but if you have any ideas they're much appreciated!

Try this. I create a DMD map, map 1513 "Kernal (sic) Crash 41 test map". Load it and play it. You can build the nullifier right next to the inactive emitter and also land all 3 CNs right there to power the nullifier. DOn't build anything, just the nullifier. You should complete the map in well under 60 seconds.

Claim victory and let us know if that map crashes your system.

Hi,

Sorry I've been a little busy recently. I tried the map and it worked without a crash. It seems I can play all the DMD and Colonial space maps without issue, it's just the campaing which is bugged. I also tried deleting all my save files and starting the campaign again, part of the reson for my late reply is that this seemed to have worked - until yesterday. It crashed again, this time a couple of maps further into the game. I havn't yet tried uninstalling/reinstalling as deleting the save data seemed to have worked.

From what I can gather, it seems to happen when I take a while to beat a level. I think it happened later after deleting the save data because I was able to complete the maps faster, only becoming a problem when I was once again presented with a challenge.

I also think that after the crash happens, the save file becomes corrupted, because it then occurs on any campaign map even if I beat it quickly. Is there a way to save a separate backup so that if it occurs again I don't have to completely redo all the levels from the beginning?

Do you think it's worth reinstalling or might my current save file be salvagable?

Cheers,

Ok, update:

I just played a colonial space mission which took me over half an hour and it crashed, so it seems to be related to how long it takes me to complete a mission, and not nessessarily the save file - though it may be corrupted due to the crashes.

Cheers,
