I haven't done it yet, but shields are probably the way to go. I've killed 5/6 stations using that strategy.

I used a method similar to the one here: .

basically you use PCs for the three closest to where you land, and shields for the rest.  Main difference I had between the video is that I made a complete ring of collectors instead of a partial one.

I recently followed the guide on Steam for the CW3 achievement and got it with 99% remaining. (NO JOKE! I was THAT close.)
