I was wondering compared to CW1 the improvements that the game has has. I wasn't a fan of CW2 but does this game improve on CW1 by a strong amount?

CW3 makes CW1 look like a pre-alpha demo.  It is infinitely better.  Improved UI.  Larger maps.  Many more well balanced units to choose from.   Add to that the very well done custom map maker with CRPL language for making custom units and you have an inexhaustible variety of custom maps to keep the game fresh long after you've played the included story and maps.

I play other games too, but I know I'll be coming back to CW3 often right up until CW4 or whatever Virgil tackles next.

I liked CW2 but it is definitely a different experience from 1 and 3.

tl:dr If you liked CW1 you can't go wrong.
"If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true, and someone would find a way to figure it all out again."   Penn Jillette

Virgil coded this game in hopes and dreams. It's magical.

You can try the demo for creeper world 3, and you get to use the units mostly from cw1, and it stops before you get into the good stuff, but your happy with the improvements, then it worth getting to see how the rest go. Also cw3, now on steam, and so there are achievements, if that your thing.

It is. Trying to do the stuff were you completely change the user interface, that's hard.

But everything about the editor is absolutely phenomenal. Really good and easy, plus with CRPL limitless.
