I was playing with the Colonial space maps--I hit one that warned me that it used features that weren't in my copy, I needed to update.  It then instantly declared me dead.

I'm running 1.82, the website has 1.82.  Huh???

Karsten75

You see two different issues.

1. There are some updates out - some as a result of beta testing for Steam and mostly with achievements in that platform. In other respects the games are the same and you can ignore the warning.

The latest non-steam beta is here: http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=14505.0

2. The message you get is if you play a map that requires a key. Teknotiss has a few maps like that and I saw earlier that someone else complained about this on his maps. I'll leave it up to teknotiss to tell you which map is the pre-requisite map to play his most recent masterpiece.

Edit: Can you please post a screenshot of the fail message? I will make a pinned topic  tp head off a number of complaints.

Loren Pechtel

The file saved into ColonialSpace\maps\200\282.cw3.  I'm not finding it in the map list anymore but there's an awful lot of pages and I certainly didn't look through them all.

Karsten75

OK no, that isn't the fail message. That's just the warning that you may disregard. It will go away if you install the beta update I linked you to.

I can't disregard it because the instant I unpause the map I lose.

I'm going to guess someone put up a map using beta features.

OK, I must be not making myself clear. If you update, the message will go away but you will *still* lose. The message you see and post is not tied to the beta. I just loaded it with the 1.87 beta version I linked you above and did not get that message.

The "instant lose" event is a symptom of the map relying on a shield key that is in another map - but we don't know which map, since teknotiss didn't post about it. Chances are he doesn't even know himself, since he usually take scripts from other people's maps without much customization.

Edit: here is the entire list of changes that makes the Steam beta  (1.89) different from the non-Steam beta (1.87). You will see that none of it applies to game play mechanics.

Mar 11, 2014: Make steam achievement for R.I.P. only apply for a unit that is already built.
Mar 11, 2014: Fixed bug that prevented steam achievements for Arca.
Mar 10, 2014: Hooked up more steam achievements.
Mar 8, 2014: Fixed bug where game would create an auto save, even if auto saves were turned off, if you exited the entire game (closed the window).
Mar 8, 2014: Added ability to rearrange conversation messages in the map editor without having to delete and re-add them.
Mar 8, 2014: Fixed issue where cloning and AoO in the editor would set the AoO to full ammo (which would make it take off immediately).
Mar 8, 2014: Added Inhibitor killed stats to steam.
Mar 8, 2014: Fixed issue with steam killed count stats.

I have the (non-steam) beta version, and the mission fails for me. So it's not "beta features."

*opens map in editor*

The script names are the same as those in "Level 3" by Zack, so I would assume it requires the keys found in levels 1 & 2.
Pretty sure I'm supposed to be banned, someone might want to get on that.

Ok, now I understand.  A doubly-errored map.  You probably want to take it down.

Karsten75

No, I don't want to take it down.

One error you can resolve. Download the beta I linked you above.

The other error only applies to some people. I suspect that tomorrow teknotiss will come along and let us know what map the pre-requisite map is (in other words, whose scripts he used).

This is the failing script in his map:

# Keyz.crpl
# Created on: 1/17/2014 5:47:22 PM
# ------------------------------------------
if (ArtifactCollected("e21cb8aeb4d84f11935c18512da5df75") ArtifactCollected("4db399b23126489c8054c674f4d2c095") and not )
FailMission
PauseGame
endif

It's blindingly obvious that it sole purpose is to validate that two other keys have been collected. I have no idea why he put it in this map.

teknotiss

if it helps the maps are zack's maps level 1 and 2.
and it's in there cos i either failed to delete it, or deleted the version i'd cleaned, but this map will soon be back without the key requirement (or indeed any crpl ::)) so you can just play it then.
sorry for any confusion dudes!
