This topic is for discussion of map #28: Bertha

Author: J

Desc:
Part of the units map series. Play the relay map before playing this one.

i don't know that this series of maps will work through colonial space, but it might helps if the map text boxes let the player know they have to play certain maps in a certain order to get access to units.
perhaps a special catagory of CSpace for series maps by authors, j, eighttailedfox and others would like that i think, and i'm one of the others (i know you can apply filters but i didn't see an author filter)
and to anyone who has played all of these could you let me know which maps do i have to do first and which would help?

I put all information in the Relay map and made a note in the description that you should play the relay map first. So everybody should be able to know how these maps work.

The filter is text-based and works on all text fields. The particular difficulty in filtering J's maps is that he chose a single-character name.

Then I guess we need an author filter =J
I uploaded all 18 maps at the same time so the ID's 11-28 are units maps so just by looking through the maps you should alse be able to find it. And you can search for 'relay'.

ah, well an alphanumeric in the name would have helped  ::), but no worries, relay first it is!

Actually what you say in the relay map is that you need to get the Nullifier as soon as possible since only 3 maps don't need it. So it makes me think that I can do the 3 maps that don't need it and then do the nullifier map 4th, But after that there is no clear order of tech that you must have to do a certain map.  I have tried for the pulse cannon but with only the sprayer, I am not smart enough to figure out how to beat it, So I go to the collector map, but no mines so the sprayer is useless. ok lets try for mortars, Nope no mines there either. So if you have an order to do these maps in please share with the rest of us.

I won't share the order until someone else guessed/played the intended order, however some other players shared their way through these maps on the "J's maps" topic on the custom map discussion board.

You now know that there are maps without mines, good. So what do you need for those maps?
Spoiler
Energy and weapons that work with energy, so you'll need either pulse cannon, mortar, strafer or bertha.
Spoiler
Take a look at those maps and one of those maps should look much easier than the other three. What do you need to beat that map? That is the next map you should play!

Thanks Lost, you got me started, J the problem for me is I have a short attention span, so having to go thru 14 maps to find out what is the next 1 I should be playing is not fun for me. Then go thru 13 ett. etc ad nauseum , Also I am not a fan of strafers and to be honest I think the ore mines are vastly underpowered, I should be able to use 1 mine to keep 1 sprayer in ore, Canons and mortars don't really have that limitation if you have collectors, reactors and real estate.

I do like these maps as they are instructional as to how powerful different units are and I might even start to like strafers on maps where I have an overabundance of PZ's But I am still not a fan even though I was able to use them on the collector map with good effect.

Cheers

You should have forge by now, you can use it to create mini  black hole behind emmiter and safely nullify it. Also nullifier on power zone has increase radius.

J

First focus on defending yourself using mortars, beams and reactors. Then use guppy's to attack downhill from the other side of the map.

hbarudi

tried this again after some time, this map in particular after playing a lot of tormented space, the creeper is just too much to use mortars, then the phantoms come and I am not able to have enough energy to setup a proper defense in the beginning. Any ideas?

J

As your main problem is energy production, first land your CN (or all, can't remember), spread collectors (more efficient than reactors) in a perfect grid, then build reactors. Wait as long as possible before building 4-6 mortars and continue building reactors. Slowly build more mortars as more creeper comes. When the spores are about to arrive, pauze reactor building and build enough beams to hold your position (4 is theoretically enough, 6-8 if you want to be sure). Also build a forge and get some energy efficiency upgrades, once you have those you should be able to supply enough weapons to stay safe forever.

Basically build just enough weapons to survive and generate as much energy as possible.
