How lathes work...

Rising Star wishes to clarify our understanding of your "lathe" modules.

A lathe module works by exciting particles to the point where they move (in a discrete spatial dimension, orthogonal to the normal two) to a higher energy level. This is calibrated to ensure that the particles return to this "plane" (if you will) in a high-wavelength electromagnetic "trap", also projected  by the lathe.

By repeating this process, it is possible to assemble objects at much finer resolution than is possible with normal techniques. Lathes cannot achieve sufficient coherence with their "trap"s beyond a certain distance to perform assembly.

Amp gems are partially constructed on this higher-energy "plane" and are therefore impossible to create reliably or without specialised equipment and multiple dedicated lathes. They stabilise when complete, due to a spontaneous sub-molecular locking mechanism which is still under investigation.

Lathes can also reverse this process, effectively firing "voids" in the temporal negative through the same region, allowing the destruction of such structures as Emitters. These mechanisms together can allow structures to be "edited", useful for flipping.

The process of deconstruction through "hole injection" is, however, highly energy intensive. The general method of destroying structures is instead through "null injection", emplecing excess (usually Fe or H) atoms into the object in order to cause structural failure and explosion. The energy released through this process is, however, often immense.

Entropic leakage is, of course, responsible for the visibility of this process in normal space, with dimensional energy shell harmonics causing the coloration to approach "peach" rather than being merely incandescent.

Are there any technical errors and/or omissions which should be remedied here?

This is an unexpected result. Apologies if we have caused this in some way.

To use less technical language:
<vernacular_filter adjust="LAYMAN_ESTIMATED">
Lathes sort of move pieces "up", like, and sorta move them like that, then "drop" them back "down"? 'Cause, y'know, normal space is N/S and E/W, and this is sort of "in" and "out"?
</vernacular_filter>

Id est: Normal space is in two space dimensions, and one of time. Lathes work by exploiting a third spatial dimension, as we understand it. (Certainly our equivalent technology does...).

Dude, if it magic, and you know it's magic, just say it's magic.

I thought lathes worked like nullifiers more simply explained in CW2. Shift into a different dimension, bend laws of physics in said dimension, destroy previously indestructible target. **~**{~Simplicity~}**~**

Similar idea, but more as if instead of trying to solve a traffic jam by shuffling cars, you bring in helicopters and just move them into place directly. Then wrap up the third dimension as something unknown.

That said, perhaps this tech came from the Nullifier.
A narrative is a lightly-marked path to another reality.

Oblivion

Perhaps, as the particulate spawners are not indestructible as they are man made and lathes are simply just really really focused lasers that can pierce them.

Ah, but that doesn't explain the constructive capabilities.
A narrative is a lightly-marked path to another reality.

Oblivion

Constructive capabilities are due to emitters drawing from an Source X and that particulates when destroyed are not actually destroyed but shuffled back into Source X via Y Dimension. Also explains limitations of emitters in an area not being able to exceed a particulate limit

But the real answer is:

I disagree. The true reason:

Because Virgil decided that it should be so!

...but I prefer my explanation for a bit of planned lore.
