I'm also a slower-paced methodical player (unless I absolutely need to go fast - then I grab some candy or chips or something & that helps). Try the method I described above, and feel free to slow it down to 1x speed and maybe even pause (hit "p" to make it easier) if you need to. Moving to the spore island is much more slow-paced and laid-back. Just so yanno. =)
