You could create a script for the shields that turns off the shield's TARGETABLE_BY_BEAM when a button on the HUD by the shield is clicked; the button can turn it on again, too. And another button in the corner for automatically turning off targeting of new shields; which can be manually reactivated.
This would not make it so another form of damage is required, just make it easier to manage our beam use.

That sounds altogether too complicated.
Instead I will probably have an above-the-map core that when clicked simply toggles an internal variable. Then every frame the relevant cores will test that variable and update their beam targeting accordingly. This way, newly created cores won't be an issue.

Except of course testing an adjacent cell as well, because there is no field on the cell at the center of the singularity. So anything with a powerful enough field does the trick, including black hole missiles, and (theoretically) enough stacked PZ shields -- about 50 of them. But lore-wise it's extreme gravity that damages them.
Pretty sure I'm supposed to be banned, someone might want to get on that.

That explains that. Too bad they didn't stay destroyed for so long that I could kill them on that map when I relanded, and I couldn't build beams on time for the next wave of missiles anyways...
On the previous map, not this one. I don't think there's black holes on this one, though the runner missiles are mislabled black hole missiles when I Ctrl+E the runners, FYI.

well it doesn't say what the standard players sheilds use
so perhaps the shields used by the player use some sort of higgs field suspension allowing for the release of all gravity effects contained within the shield radius therefore interfering with the strong force holding the atoms of the creeper together an causing it to separate into its unshown component parts which go off somewhere and recombine to create fresh creeper at the closest available point which would be just beyond the edge of the shields effect radius.
(note:if you dont get the science go read the science magpie.also this idea may be over complicated but hey its the future so who cares.that and it sounds impressive  :).also i smoothed out the scentences with the spellchecker  :))
edit:oh and the large gravitational feild projected by amassed amount of supercharged ne results in a inverted singularity effect

Also if anyone adds flip ate towers here's a suggestion:find a way to project oh I don't know 100 beam dames to all spores in range and possibly remove the beam partical
And finally for all you who find crpl units unaffected by inhibitor death try adding a crpl Core under it which kills the select crpl units
