What do we think? Love 'em, hate 'em? I've heard both.

Personally I've always loved maps that reflect real life geography. It's like they tap into that childlike dream to conquer the world. It's what made RISK and the realistic maps in Civ IV so appealing. But what do you guys think? Good? Bad?

Good when executed right?

What I mean like that is I'm not big on maps that just have a political map of Utah or a silhouette of the U.S. with no Canada or Mexico. I'm talking maps that take into account islands, borders, oceans, etc. When the creeper moves how you would expect water or the likes to move.

If you haven't played any, here's a list of samples. I highly encourage Italy, I replayed that at least 3 times because of how fun it was.

P.S. I give more props to people who can put together maps without background images. It shows more creativity in my book to make bland shades form something familiar.

Yeah, I love them as well (as I've always liked atlases).

Here's one more of The Netherlands. I had to use a height map to determine the parts below sea level.

Are you looking for me to post more links to existing ones or create new ones? I created one recently for the Tasman Sea.

But it takes time for me to scout out candidate locales. I like to do these hard core. Some places like Hawaii, you think would be good for something like this, but to keep the dimensions right, you wouldn't have enough land mass on the map. And then, it takes a while for me to test, and properly create the maps. I'll try to produce about one quality map a week.

My map named "Rallen" is based on 2 actual existing island, small enough to walk around by foot in a few minutes, but they exist ;)

I admire your attitude! Good maps take a while to create and test properly.

Sqaz also created a new geographical map: Japanese Invasion. I haven't had the time to play it yet, but it looks promising, just like your own Tasman map.
