This map demonstrates the downfalls of mortars, it's up to you to figure out where to use them.

Incidentally, this map also demonstrates that I'm really lacking the skills to come up with a non-trivial strategy! :) I can barely survive the first few minutes when the creeper comes flooding in...

Ebon Heart

you need to get blasters on the right and left first, or it floods before they get built. and mortars suck on this map! lol. but what did you think??

I didn't think of building the ones on the left and right first. It always seems obvious in hindsight, so I kick myself every time, but it is really hard to think of it, realise that it may be better than what I tried before and try it. I think this is IkeaPimp's (and fer's and all the other good players') strength. Presumably IkeaPimp had somewhere between 5 and 10 more of those ideas to get the time that he did.

I built 4 blasters on the edges that completed seconds before the creeper overflows.  I also built them far enough back so that they only fire the instant the creeper comes over the edge - save a lot of energy that way.

Ebon Heart

what did you guys think of the map?

Huzzah, I managed to beat IkeaPimp's score! IkeaPimp, your turn to beat again :)

Ebon_Heart: Like I already said to you in IM, I quite like the map. However, I'm not going to lie to you; the whole story does include not just the map but also the challenge of beating IkeaPimp. :)

Ebon Heart

i didn't get a new IM.... sorry.

Ebon - good map.  I like symmetry and don't like maps that have some evil 'trick'.  In my opinion, the best maps are the ones where you have multiple options to complete them.

Timwi - the challenge goes both ways :)

Here's a video for y'all:

hahah! a youtube video on one of my maps (that wasn't upon request) :)
also, you do know, using relays instead of collectors can shave quite a bit of time off the map. you don't have to clear out the deeper pit.

There's a number of things I could have tweaked or done better - might 30+ sec - though I don't think relays would have made a difference.  The blasters were bridging the collectors at the very end and were being built 2-at-a-time.

Ebon Heart

I guess I shouldn't be talking, you blew my score outta the water.
