(Let's try this again...) I (mostly) fixed the lag, tweaked the totem, moved the ore deposits, and changed the win conditions. To win, now you just have to get 75% of the map free with less than 50,000 creeper on the map.

Wow, you took all of the criticism onboard and really improved your map. Nice work.

One nagging question remains - was there in fact totems on the previous map and they were just not visible and hence one didn't know to build the forge?

There was a totem, but if it wasn't visible, then I'll keep that in mind for future maps.
