Excellent way to wake up.
I lasted for a whole 3:24!
Exploding bugs did me in.
Cannons set to Digitalis, but killing bugs.
There is no justice!

I don't get it D and H...

I decided to make a map that would create a time to relax and zip through this one

Where did I go wrong?

Might I suggest a little music in the background, dim the lights, maybe a little jog beforehand to clear the mind?

I was completely satisfied to just get the CN down and functioning. Everything else was gravy.

After all these years, I still get caught short by those fat-body bugs you fill your games with.
Which just makes me feel all the better when I do manage to finish one.

It's been a while, I thought. PH makes a fun puzzle, I thought.

CN, yes. PZ reactor, yes. Forge, yes. First Spore tower - wait for it - yes.

"Juicy, juicy bugs" ... I wasn't fast enough to strip the Digitalis. Almost, but not quite. Perhaps I'll have to delay the Forge.

Thanks for the map. Maybe I'll finish it, maybe I'll let CW3 fit for another few months.

The start was a trifle difficult.

You need to manage the guppies to get all of the energy out of the one that dies first. Aim for a forge and 5 reactors plus one on the PZ then swap the PZ one for a beam. 2 cannons are enough at the start.

Good clue.
I didn't think of the PZ Beam and probably wasted assets with extra Beams.
Still can't figure out why the doggone Big Fat Juicy Bugs keep dying when I'm not shooting them.
Going back to recent save for a Beam change.

Not a lot of real estate right now.

They're so frail, they can easily die by hits from a cannon which is removing the Digitalis under them. Or from the Digitalis being gone.
What I've been hoping to do is use the PZ from the first spore tower for a Cannon targeting the Digi, to stop the runners from wandering near anything important.

I think I'll have to drop the built-with-Guppies early-Forge in favour of rushing southward faster. The energy drain is just too great, and just building the Forge costs as much as another Nullifier. Charging it takes two Collectors-worth. And then there are the packets which get diverted into the Totems.

But if you want a Forge, left of the CN was where I put mine. As far north as possible.

PH, I treat your maps as a puzzle - I'm quite sure there's some sequence of moves which will secure a titanic advantage with little effort, probably by keeping the Runner threat at bay. Perhaps deleting all those Snipers in my first quicksave was a mistake - if I can get two Runners top pop while stacked, I might have some use of them after all.

yup - in the end this is what I did:

I found if you can get two digitalis cannons up at the south-west corner, you can stop the digitalis getting up into that last column.
Then start on the forge, and stabilizing. Next, a march across the bottom, up to the central air-exclusion node, then onward to the inhibitor.

This is my start, hope this helps.

I got every bit of energy I could out of those guppies, had collectors down and PZ reactor almost complete by the time CN landed. Straight into building forge and reactors. By the time the second forge fires I have upgraded power twice and almost have 6 reactors. You can then turtle or push on earlyish. I found it easier to get fire range up to 100 before I took the first spore, the PZ beam protects you that way. That bottom cannon is set at a very specific place, it targets a thin bit of digitalis, much less likely to get troubled by bugs.

Oh and don't forget to destory the snipers before you do anything! It can get messy.

Trying to work through this and being *that* close to getting something done, then bam!

This morning I decided to start from scratch and try to beat my (last place) time...and I can't even take out the Emitter!
The Nullifier keeps going off just as the Emitter triggers.
Once more into the breach.
0530 is a little early for a beer, but it is Saturday...innit?

D0monik, PH - I had a completely different start.

Two Guppies north, one south. Nullifier and PZ reactor in the north, second Nullifier in the south, line of Collectors between them, Beam on the PZ in the crook of that elbow. North PZ never lost the Reactor (spare Beam nearby), and a bit of AC kept the Beam safe. Second Beam to swap onto the PZ because the first couldn't recharge.

Getting to the point where the Runners weren't attacking the Digi was ... interesting, with some disarming of cannons for a few frames while a Runner turned back or Digi regrew. I lost one run when a Runner ran on a diagonal onto the lower hanging-off-blob of Digi and died there. because it doesn't directly connect so I couldn't let it regrow.

I don't know how you approached the rest of the map, but I took a pretty relaxed approach, having fun with a PZ Bertha.

Thanks PH, and thanks to each of you for reminding me what a fun game this can be and how much fun this forum is.

Here is my start. I put reactors on the two PZs, the cannons allow nullifying the bottom spore, and that leaves plenty of time to get 4 beams up along the network before the next spore finishes.

At 2:07 (bottom picture) you show your CN, PZ Beam, 2 Cannon, Forge, 4.8 Reactors - and - an empty Guppy sitting at it's base. All of my Guppies are dead at 1:11 of game time (@36.3, 40.1, 1:06.3).
Are you working some magical magic?

Attached is my picture at 2:09. What I've managed to build makes me look like a shirt-tail cousin.

I missed W's post and am even more confused.
I can't figure out how either of you get your Guppies down range so quickly and take out the targets.
Two of my Guppies don't last long enough to take out one target, and you're taking out multiple.
It's way past beer O'clock in the Smokey's.

You need to get the right guppies to the right spots - closest guppy to the top nullifier; fastest-to-die guppie to the bottom pz, remaining guppy to the top pz.

Did you get rid of the snipers?  Where they are sitting, they snipe bugs and the guppies die faster!  Initially I flew them to my base, but in the end I never used them, so in later runs I just destroyed them.

That is just outstanding!
My first run through I grabbed all the Snipers and moved them way left, then just deleted them.
This time I just left them in place. It never occurred to me that they would sit there doing their jobs until they ran out of ammo or died (good Soldiers, they).
I will make some changes in the morning and give it all a third go.

PH maps are worth the price of admission.

wow, I don't think I can beat that one! well done!  8)

I had an idea to try and save the top guppy from dying. Once the central air exclusion zone was down, then use the guppy to skip over to the inhibitor. But I couldn't get across the top without the bugs biting me, so gave up on that one.

Did you stay focused on that upper left area (to start) or take out the whole left side as Weasee did?

I'm going to give it another go here in a few.

PH - you really, really, don't have to increase the difficulty. I don't mind personally, but these other guys wouldn't be able to keep up.

Your last suggestion worked well. That and saving about every 4-5 seconds in the early part of the game.
Those bugs sure are touchy.

W - those pictures are each worth a thousand words. I had problems jumping that gap at the bottom left, so just backed off and built an overwhelming landing force.
(D-Day, kind of).

For the near future, I'm going to pretend I don't see any PH maps.
