Speaking of being new, I just started playing CW recently, and I was wondering if anybody had any tips to share on how to gracefully deal with situations where you have to deal with a very large amount of creeper overrunning the places where you could possibly place a nullifier. The kinds of situations I'm referring to are the almost 50M strength emitter that was in the Smarties map from the last tournament, and the emitter in the middle of the creeper field in the ctuna map from this week's tournament. With the 50M emitter, it was difficult to bring enough firepower to bear to keep the emitter pulses from destroying my nullifier, and with the creeper field, it's not so much about the strength of the creeper, but that the field keeps sweeping around whatever creeper is in the neighborhood too often to easily get a nullifier built, or even shields up to protect the nullifier. In both cases, I managed to eventually power through using brute force, but I'm sure that there must be some more elegant techniques.

Shawn Asmussen

Well, in ctuna you need to note the directionality of the gravity. The emitter is significantly easier to approach from the right cause gravity helps you. When fields are involved, it is usually easiest to try to build shields when field is away from you (A gateway nearby will help it build fast enough, before it gets destroyed, packet speed helps as well). Then move blasters, launchers repulsers a tad closer, build a new line of shields, destroy the old and advance. Once you get close enough, you can build a set of shields that will protect the nullifier long enough.

When dealing with 50m emitters and no experimentals, its important to upgrade fire rate all the way, make sure you have maxed your energy, and build some makers, fully charged. Have a set of repulsors (i.e. more then 1 per build line), and once you have pounded down the creeper around the emitter, you move in the makers, and fire small bursts of anti creeper to help protect the nullifier. It takes a bit of practice to get it right, so make sure you have saved before approaching the emitter, and using all your stored anti-creeper.
Best of luck with your game,

You're getting closer every time I look :)

If I get some time, there are a couple of these games I want to take another run at. Fun stuff.

The Helper's place is secure, as I have to go out of town for the weekend.  Maybe next week...

So, put myself back in the lead with a measly 2 points. Could it be any closer? :)

Other than the enormouse lead I have in Mission 2 (;)) the games are incredibly close.

I just noticed that mopa42 joined the game, so I'm sure there will be many more changes before Sunday night.

Good stuff!

I think packet speed in general is most important for low complexity maps. That's what I bought first and foremost. The second screenshot wasn't my fastest attempt, but I can't find a better one. The top pool is harmless and shouldn't be attacked until you have undue energy.

Below are the standings as of right now. If someone is still active at midnight forum time, please feel free to post an updated version.

There were some extremely close competition with many players separated from another by mere seconds.

Well done all and see you next week.

EDIT:
If the standings don't change, "florrat" will be putting together next week's game.

@gu250 - Thank you for that final post, but could you get it a little closer to midnight next time? You were a whole second off. LOL!

Seriously, it is great to have someone post the actual results at or about midnight for use as the official results.

@florrat - you're up at bat. Show us your stuff.

Unfortunately I didn't have time this weekend to increase my score anymore, so congratulations TheSmileyCoder!

The new tournament is up: 52. Previous themes. Thank you for reminding that I have to post the next one, I assumed TheSmileyCoder would have to do it.

Thank you, ea, for explaining your tactics with these screenshots. The biggest differences between our approaches were that I didn't build any reactors and that I built makers instead of blasters.

Since I was #1 at the ctuna map (probably mainly because ea didn't try that one  :-\ ), I'll post some screenshots how I did it.
