Virgil, my son and I both thank you. He’s completely bouncing off the walls because of CW2’s release. It’s going to be amusing to read other players’ reactions as today’s good news expands like a spherical shockwave all across the Creeper Nation and beyond. 🙂

Beautiful! Put off sleep for hours to play this game. I checked the website with little hope on my lunch break at work this afternoon, and found that you had JUST launched the game! I tried to find ways to leave work early, but had to stick it out a few hours longer…. Well worth the wait however! Can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!

Also, I REALLY liked the double speed feature of Creeper World 1…….. just saying 😉

Reached mission 13 before getting too tired (not because of the game! I’m just sleepy^^). I must say: WOW! The campaign is really nice. I really like all the new stuff you added, esspecially the amazing creeper behaviour in certain circumstances.

Its really fun! 🙂 Any idea when the editor is going to be released? Already have some nice ideas for maps^^

Thanks Virgil! Good work, that’s for sure!

Awesome news! I just wonder, why do you want my Name, Phone and Address when I buy the game? In times where even a huge company like Sony looses its entire Database, I don’t want to give my data for a simple online purchase.
Sorry but I won’t buy it, until all I have to give you is my name and Email address. (and CC data if you don’t use Paypal) I see no reason to give you more data.

    1. Grauniad
      Grauniad May 16, 2011 at 10:41 am |

I think it’s worth pointing out that your name, phone number and address is not worth as much as your actual payment information to potential scammers or hackers.

So if you pay through a secure payment processor like Mindspring using Paypal, using your credit card in Paypal, you have a triple layer of security around your payment info. I’d be not worried about just name, address and phone number – no-one is likely to call you or come round to visit just because they hacked Mindspring’s database!

(For some of us, a visit or a phone call might be welcome, but that’s beside the point! :))

If I have a group of “maker unit” and change option like “arm” or change anti-creeper speed I wish appy changes for all units in selected group. Now changes are only to one unit.
If I wish change one unit I select one unit but if I select many units I wish appy changes for all selected unit.
If group units are different type then changes should be for all units which can do this changes. For example all units can “destroy”
Sorry if my english is incorrect. (google translator used 🙂 )
    Nice game.

You’ve done an excellent job, sir! Thanks for your devotion to developping a high-quality product! I believe you accomplished what you so desired: High-quality… and loads of fun to play!

Oh and by the way… Thanks for keeping the prize that cheap! However, I think it’s worth a bit more than what you sell it for 🙂

So far, I’m enjoying this game a lot. Unfortunately, I think I’ve hit my first problem mission. Story level 12, the one with the enemy gateway. It seems like no matter what I do, there is no way to prevent my home base from being flooded from below by the creeper. Any tips would be appreciated.

  36. Link327
    Link327 May 16, 2011 at 12:15 am |

    I like the game too.
I want to say something taht IS a compliment to Virgil, even if it’s not looking like taht in some parts:
I know 2 different Game Types:
    – Flash Games
    – Professionel developped games
For me was clear taht the proffesionel ones, taht ones that are taking years to produce for a whole team thats working day and night, that these games would be better.
    And i nearly kept right.
They have better graphics, more options, bigger variety, better gameplay, more fun(i kow, u want to say, we checked it(^^))
And CW2 is a flash game. And what I noticed: It’s more fun than the other games that have better options.
Way more fun. SO Virgil accomplished to build a “low” game that’s better than a “High” one.
And for that, Virgil, you are really the best Game-Designer ever.

    Dan May 16, 2011 at 12:20 am |

You did an excellent job with this one. Creeper world was awesome, but this just takes the cake. I can definitely see why it took so long to make it. Hopefully it is paying off for you. I would be curious as to the number of downloads there have been the past couple of days, but you probably don’t want to say too much. You will definitely see a huge influx of new players when you release to the flash portals for sure.

And like has been said tons of times before, congratulations on a very successful launch and final result. Looking forward to what else you have to make this even better. Thanks a ton for giving me something to take my mind off of everything else going on. Much appreciated.

    CW Fan May 16, 2011 at 1:34 am |

Thank you for the release of CW2.
    Just a negative side opinion.
    1. I’m quite disappoint about the scrolling idea, I have a 1920 x 1080 (h x w) monitor (ya, just a 90 degree turned HD mon.), why I need to scroll the map up and down instead of displaying the whole map? may be a performance problem, may be it’s not usual to have a vertical monitor for most user, may be many reason… but I just feel … it is not what I expect.
    2. Language, I’m not a native English user (as you can see my grammar is really sxxx), your story mode’s story may be very interesting, but it’s hard to understand all the details, your spent lots of time on the script, why not just ask some volunteer to help your translate to different language.
    3. blaster seems very powerful in the demo (compare with CW1), and the friendly creeper seems very weak… I feel it’s not balanced.
    4. About terrain, your have different terrain with different difficult to break through, it’s good. But the presentation could be better, I always thing that the terrain with some little little rock inside can’t be break. I try to found the way to get the diamond, and after 3 min, I get that, I can just break down those terrain(with small rock) that I think it’s not possible to break down, just waste 3 min after I destroy all the creeper, may be that’s my stupid. It’s good that to heard you would let us replace the graphic in your game. Let’s set a competition and use CW2 as a prize for the best graphic mod please.

FEATURE REQUEST – (Not a demand, but my recommendation to make a great game better). Put a (y) and (n) hot key during the “Are you sure YES/NO” dialog for tech upgrades. Or better yet (IMO) remove the dialog entirely: You click you get. Clicking YES disrupts the gameplay, at best

  57. Wheeler
    Wheeler May 18, 2011 at 2:36 pm |

help with 13 please? it goes too fast for me, i can beat the creeper pool up top (no emitter) easily, and i can set up a sheild and a blaster for the small south pool easily too. i can get thru the zigzag using 2 launchers and a little bit of anticreeper, and i can also get the pod that is surrounded by deep creeper. i have no trouble at all with any pods except the very last one, just above a rising pool of creeper that comes from a pair of emitters. i can’t even beat the first of the pair of emitters! what do?

    1. supersonicguy
      supersonicguy May 20, 2011 at 3:35 pm |

It’s all about getting the jump on the creeper. If you can save the two first ships (the one up top and the first other one you come to), you can easily beat it. Forget about the emitter where it is using fields to go around the capsule (I think that’s the third capsule). In fact, don’t even bother with it. Don’t collect it, don’t attack the creeper, do nothing. Only station a launcher at it to hold off the creeper. One will work. After that, go for both of the emitters below that. After you are 100% sure that you have saved the last and final capsule, you should then go and kill the last emitter.

        thank you, hedgehog guy 😛
i kept losing because i went for the pods in order of urgency: i always went for the top pod first since it was easy, i went for the U shaped tunnel at sorta the same time. i also put a blaster and one shield at the bottom pool with no pod. but i spent so much time on the pod with the ring that the last pod died. thanks, i even beat the game now (with some other troubles)

HAHA! I just completed the campaign, and it was marvelous. The [] ‘special weapon’ is far more fun than Thor, as well. And the way to destroy the [] ‘final enemy’ was quite good as well.

Now then, a cliffhanger for Creeper World 3. That wacky [] ‘final dialog’.

      Krell May 24, 2011 at 12:08 pm |

a little tip, if the creeper gets into the room above the 4 bunkers you’re moving too slow and are going to lose. if you’ve gotten here before then however, aggressive is classified as 20 launchers, 8 makers, and uncounted blasters ready to be moved forward to replace any lost ones.

With this map sometimes not being aggressive enough at the end isn’t the problem, it’s a matter of being aggressive early to have as much setup time as possible so you can go into that last room with launchers going crazy.

I know you already finished it, but to those else who have trouble, the pool on the upper right can defend itself forever so its not worth the effort to go there until AFTER the bottom one is rescued. And the Drones gateway doesn’t have to be destroyed, just capped with a few coils. That saves precious minutes so you can focus on the lower region =)

I’m working hard to finish off ‘code’ maps. They will give you a couple billion maps to play with while I work on getting the map editor released.

    i need more than that!!!!

Got any news concerning the update? Would be awesome to hear something about it, maybe even explaining a bit the code maps. Like which elements the generation will consider. I’m very confused on how to actually make that work, and I’d love to see something about it 🙂 Thanks!

nono, it wont be just a billion.
See if you see how you can order over 40 symbols over 50 locations, and u can use as much of one symbol as u want, there will be some… Much maps.
    I think it’s something like:
    1.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000.000
    or more xD

that would be 40^50 if you were using that logic, which probably would make my calculator explode.
1.267650600228229401496703205376e+80 according to windows calculator, so your estimate is way way way too low. That is a one followed by 80 zeros.

On level 18, if you aim a repulsor down into the pit that the creeper bug comes out of, the creeper will sort of explode and start to flood the ground? Why does it do that?

    1. Ranakastrasz
      Ranakastrasz May 30, 2011 at 10:55 am |

It looks to me like repulsors do not interact properly with built in fields, I think they may overwrite them.

Hey virgil, I have another question.

I was wondering if you considered using steam for distribution. You might have noticed the amount of indie games on steam – and how well they sell! (I think steam is a great platform for indie games, since it has a large public!).
On the other hand, I don’t know how much Steam wants from the profit, but I was just wondering if you ever considered it.

Just take a look at ‘Terraria’. It had a giant succes, most of it due to steam releasing it and showing it to a large public.

I mean, I don’t know how much copies you sold, or if you reached an amount you desired or if, for you, the game should have been sold more often. If thats the case, I think you could consider taking a look on steam. Only to reach a larger public. This might be good to promote Creeper World (the first) in a passive way, and will certainly get you some attention for upcoming titles.

It would help you to make a ‘name’ for the big public. It’s kind of sad I only find reviews of your game in so few places. I’d love to see you have a much bigger audience 🙂

    I’m just curious 🙂

    Hello again.

I have a suggestion for the upcoming map editor. Something you might want to consider, I think it will add much to the custom maps.

I’d love to see the possibility to put a hard limit for every tower type.
Like for example, setting the maximum amount of blasters to 6 and rocket launchers to 2, if the map maker desires to do that.
These constraints might be an additional challenge for any player.

Another way to do something approximately the same, is giving the map maker the possibility to make the price of a turret (example: blaster) increase with every new turret of that type (just like the tech domes!).
Giving the map maker the possibility to choose by how much the cost increases by additional tower.

So, let’s say, the map maker choses to allow infinite amount of blasters, but with every new blaster, the cost increases by x.
Or, another possibility, is that the cost is multiplied by y (a even harder increase! maybe even somewhat better for different scenarios).

Further, it would be great to have infinite ore deposits, or to have ore deposits that slowly refill (by, let’s say, 1 per 60 frames). Therefore the ore deposit should not be destroyed when it hits 0, due to it being refillable.

I’d love to hear what you think of that. I believe this adds a lot of possibilities for custom scenarios.
However, you might want to implement that in patches after the initial map editor release. I think it’s not a haste, as these features are, as far as I know, not yet implemented. So best only bother with them when you’re done with what you’re working on currently.

A strong map editor will make sure the fun never ends. And extending that editor even further (I don’t know, something like finding ‘blaster artifacts’ that allow you to build one additional blaster on maps with a limit) is only a thought for the future.

Thanks for reading through all of that, I know you’re busy. So thanks 🙂

    Molay

      supersonicguy June 1, 2011 at 3:07 pm |

Technically, you don’t. Here is why:
Let’s say that it will take 5 minutes to complete each map. (I’m pretty sure it will be longer, but this is just an example.)
You will then multiply 1.267650600228229401496703205376e+80 by 5 to get the amount of minutes needed to play everything.

There are ABOUT 39447000 minutes in the average lifespan of a human (just google “75 years in minutes”. Did you know google has it’s own scientific calculator? :D)

To find out how many lives you will need to complete this, just divide the time required to play all and the average lifespan of a human. It will equal 1.6067769415015456200683235802165e+73, which is the number of lives you would need to play all of the maps. Therefore, 1.6067769415015456200683235802165e+73 different people can play code maps for their entire life, and not one code map will be the same as any other.

Just for visualization purposes, 1.6067769415015456200683235802165e+73 looks like this: 160,677,694,150,154,562,006,832,358,021,650,00,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

There are about 7 billion (7,000,000,000) people in the world this year. So, if you divide that big number above this by 7 billion, you’ll get 2.2953956307164937429547479717378e+63. So, you could have 2e+63 more earths, and you STILL wouldn’t have enough people to play every code map.

      Summary:
There are approximately 1.267650600228229401496703205376e+80 code maps available to play.
You will need to live 1.6067769415015456200683235802165e+73 times more than your current life to play every code map.
There could be 2e+63 more earths, and there still wouldn’t be enough people to play every code map.
Remember: this is only IF each map is 5 minutes long, and it takes 0 minutes to load a new code map. If it is 10 minutes long and takes 2.5 minutes to load a new code map, then multiply those numbers by 2.5. You also might want to count in food, water, sleep, and bathroom brakes. You’ll have a horrible life otherwise.

In conclusion, I think Virgil has enough code maps already. 😛
