What is the Group name in the submit score window for ?

For instance: when you like to compare your scores with those of your friends, room mates, colleagues, etc. you use the same group name and only these scores will show up when you enter this name on the score page. It's also a way to show your own score when you're not in the top 100 for a certain map.
