A highly capable anti-spore laser capable of targeting GRAB NUMBER units within a GRAB NUMBER degree cone from its laser emitter. It also aims at the average position of its intended targets to maximize how many targets are within the fractal laser emission cone.

The laser is optimized to damage Spores and nothing else in order to achieve the fractal laser split and not be completely useless. Although the Fractal Laser can target any enemy unit in its firing angle, the damage is pathetic. If it wasn't optimized to damage Spores, it would hardly damage them like any other unit and the laser will still deal pathetic damage. Last we checked though, Spores are usually in large numbers by the dozen.
