I guessed.

Spoiler
When Sorrontis labels something "friend", you can be sure that it will at best be gone by the end.

"Defeat" will prevent victory, I understand. I don't think that even a CRPL WinMission will work after that.

Yep, just played through and no win condition, shame as 28 min time with hindsight as a friend.

Hello, some responses:

The arbitrary loss of a "friend" by a runner bomb can be prevented by not building anything within 10 cells from the "friend". The friends themselves are not targeted (well, I never saw them being targeted).

Let my explain the thought process behind the random AOO attack:
I wanted players to feel the urgency and despair that is war. You never know when and where a shell will hit, who will die, what equipment, base or position will be lost. This is even more pronounced when facing a superior foe.

I also give a warning that is long enough for players to pause, move units that can fly before the AOO hits. Flying units don't die when in flight :) And same thing with the runner bombs. I usually left some cannons strewn about my base, so that I could move one or two into position to reduce the damage :)

But thanks for the assessment!

For some reason, I don't play games to feel despair. To enjoy a challenge, yes.
