While I think of it... do modules self-destruct if disconnected from the Command Module? I would consider an "armoured Lathe on a stick" approach, if not. A long stick. I think Sorrontis showcased the same idea.

I did! and if the particles destroy some where on the stick, everything beyond goes bye bye, but doesn't explode. Just disappears.
