I agree the goldenrod is hard to see, and I found the two colors for 2nd and 3rd a little hard to tell apart too, so i tried a different color for third.

The reason for the three colors is to code first, second, and third place as gold, silver, and bronze (like the medals). Being shiny metallic colors, these don't translate well to the computer screen. The color of bronze, specifically, has been #8C7853 or #B8860B in past tournaments (it is #CD7F32 on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_(color)). So there is no problem in changing the particular colors to make them more readable, but the whole point of the colors was to represent gold, silver, and bronze.

If there's a color scheme everyone likes, I can go make the score program spit out the chart in that fashion. I've got something in progress right now (that's how I made those two tables), but I'll wait until the design stabilizes.

I debated doing just rank and name when i started making the full tables, because I intended to note the best scores for a given misson, and bold goldenrod isn't all that different from goldenrod compared to say, grey or the bronze we were using.  grey and bronze aren't hard to read, but look almost the same to me when they are just text, if they had 6 inches of separation, i probably couldn't tell you which is which.  There's no mistaking them with the glow tags however.

the second is much more readable, but far less aesthetic.  im not much of a fan of the glow tags, its just a background highlight here as well

If we stick to hues at least similar to gold, silver, and bronze, then:

Of those, im preferential to the third of each.  Amber is a bit darker than goldenrod, which I find just a touch harder to read than i like text to be.  The grey and Bronze we were using are close enough that at a glance, for me, they almost look the same.  The grey and bronze i use are my own halfbreeds.  i met in the middle for a lighter grey that isnt nearly so light as silver is, and I moved 24 points darker on wikipedia's bronze.

Im sure if I kept toying with this post, I could come up with more variations on the same thing, but i've spent enough time on this for now, so, i leave you with 4 tables, all offering essentially the same information.

Im not such a fan of the second one, seems a little too chaotic.  I think it takes the longest to fully interpret, finding each of 1st second and third, even though that information is essentially highlighted.  The fourth one is the simplest, but also the least colorful/most plain.  The third offers the most information overall, but might be too much for readability, I do like it though.  i just wouldn't like to manually make another table like it, that took a while, lol.

Overall, I prefer the first one.  Essentially unchanged from the previous tables, except using only shades of gold, silver/grey, and bronze.  A darker gold, bolded for more emphasis to help it both be easier to read, and to make it much more apparent that its not bronze, since they looked a little too similar in color to me without the emphasis.
