vanilla map with a bertha

Vanilla but a tough start!  Finally survived it, at that point it just takes time.

I wish I had some time to play your maps, had an hour this evening, got wiped out at 26min game time as I overstretched! No save  :'( Rookie error.

Love this though, will be back! Tricky desions at the start, to Bertha or not to Bertha?

"Better" times will surely come again.

This error happens to me all the time. For me it's overconfidence :-)

So I started with a big collector grid, built 4 mortars and then 4 cannon well within that and set about building up reactors as fast as I could without starving the guns. Was holding creeper at bay until when trying to build enough beams to hold off the six-shotter SW at 9 minutes. Do I need a fundamentally different approach or just tweak what I'm doing?

I built a terp and made a small 3 high wall around my base, much easier to defend. The centre could then be nullified for a PZ beam. I flew a cannon around the map cutting off the thin lines of digitalis at the far ends. Then push out one corner at a time. Never got round to finsihing the map but the start is a lot of fun.

Yeah, you have to sacrifice the friendly emitter for a PZ pretty early.

This is a potentially amazing map if the endgame could be shortened.

Totally love the beginning. I let it run for a few minutes to get an idea of where to go, figured I had enough time to grab the bertha (it was close, but manageable) then did the sensible thing and walled a small, defensible area in the middle of the map.

I basically did what Dom did, but I always go with a PZ reactor instead of a beam because it allows a faster build and provided you have carved out enough space you can build enough beams where you don't have to cycle through them. But because I grabbed the bertha it made that defensible area much smaller than ideal and it was tough to balance the energy at first.

In hindsight, the bertha really isn't that helpful, even on a PZ. The creeper isn't very deep and is easily repelled with max upgrades and a few blasters/mortars. So if I attempted this map a second time, I'd just go for the middle defense.

My only complaint is that once you've beaten the challenge in the map, you still have to kill all the emitters on the huge map. I saw that coming, and decided to let it run overnight to build up some aether - only to later realize there's no singularity.

My recommendation would be to either add a well-defended inhibitor, or add a singularity to speed up the lengthy, tedious clean-up.

But the start of this map is simply amazing. I suppose the difficulty could even be ramped up a bit at the start but that would reduce the number of completions.

Overall, great job with the map. And I hope you're still around otherwise I just spent 4 minutes of typing for nothing, lol.

Thanks for the map! =)
You disagree with this sentence, don't you?

Rest assured Alex is drooling over your comment as we speak!

Johnny Haywire

Lol, cool. Are you guys twins or something? 🤪

Thank you for your detailed comment on my map. Of course you're right that the ending is a bit boring. What I always don't understand is why do you play it until the end? If it's no longer fun you can stop. I've gotten used to that. ;-)

btw... you are now the third person to ask if we are twins :-)

LOL

No, I can't stop. Even if the map is impossible I must. Finish. It.

It's like starting to sneeze without actually sneezing. Once ya commit, ya gotta go with it.

And the other two people who've asked if you're twins might have been my other personalities. They sometimes pop up at random times and say all sorts of miscella HEY! MY TURN! I HAS TYPED IN ALL CAPS BECUZ THAT MEENS I'M RITE! YOU NO LISTEN TO JOHNNY BECAUSE HE TRAPS ME WITH MEDICASHUN AND NO! I DON'T WANT TAKE THE VENLAFAXINE AGAIN! I DON'T WANT TO GO ON THE CART! HURRY AND RESCU
