do you want to use ore only? go left! do you want to use cannons only and just a straightforward battle? go in the middle! do you want to a more SpecOps approach and use guppies? go right! In order to go anywhere, delete the relays you don't need and rebuild them on your intended path.

I did find one trick - if you go the left route with the sprayers, you can

still get the cannon by leaving the middle relay connected to the CN, and flying a sprayer in between that relay and a collector :-)

But in the end, I found the faster way was with the

Yes, I understand that. I guess adding more void between the CN's and ore mines would remedy that.
