Playing story and reached the level where you have 4 islands on the side and a center area to defeat the creeper there, but this dark tower is preventing me from putting any units there and the beacon unit doe not survive long enough in creeper for my units to come in and fight. Any ideas on how is it supposed to be done? I did take all the surrounding areas.

The beacon clears a circular area around it,
Spoiler
Place the beacon on the outer edge of the Dark circle, it's light allows you to have a area that you clear of creep, then work you way towards the tower to place a nullifier.

I had no idea I can put the beacon in space this is very helpful since I don't have to worry about my beacon dying in creeper. Thanks.

This tripped me too, but primarily because I couldn't get beacons to build, because I didn't realize they require liftic. Makes perfect sense (now) cos they're a floating unit... maybe tweak the mission's intro text to mention their resource requirement?

Generally I found it tricky to remember which combinations of redon/greenar/blutic, red/green/blue make which raw material/resource and powers which weapon(s).

Perhaps add that info to the Info panel for each unit/resource?

And/or add it to the wiki page here then folks see it when clicking 'More Info'? Currently the few times I've clicked it it's just contained 'Same info'...

:)

(BTW I'm loving CW4, 700+ hours on CW3)

Aha - having read the User Interface page here in now much the wiser. Hadn't even noticed the requirements icons in the corners of the build menu items (very tiny on my laptop screen).

Maybe Sarge could point this out early on?

You can also put ERN's in the beacons, gives it almost double radius.

I just started playing yesterday and am like a lost dog in tall weeds.
Been wandering through the posts trying to find some basic intro/explanation type posts.
Any of you have links to such a thing, and where is the 'wiki'?
Thanks,

GoodMorning

Good to know that you found what you sought.

It's somewhat challenging for knucracker, since many people skip the "story" where the units are explained, and other forms of tutorial become increasingly intrusive and code-complicating.

Once you feel confident with your understanding, would you like to write an introductory post of the kind you were originally looking for?
(Or one with the right name that makes it easy to find the resources you thought helpful.)

Of course, you might be having too much fun with the game itself.  ;)

Good Morning,
Thank you for asking. I will start taking notes as I wander through the process.
One of the first things I would tell people is that: "No, your towers aren't broken...you have to play through a couple of scenarios before you turn on the Soylent (Green)".
I was about ready to give up over that. :)

The biggest problem I'm facing involves the old adage of teaching old dogs new tricks.

So far, I'm enjoying the graphics, but not yet comfortable with navigating and moving around the playing area.

I'll keep you posted.
Thanks,

Five days in of playing and I am on game six ("We Knox Nothing") of the journey.
That title is really appropriate, since I still don't have any idea of how the game is played.
I can put weapons and structures out there and eventually get through the finish, but so far it is just a slog from start to finish.
The only reason I am continuing is because of my experience with CW - CW3. I've had so much fun over the past decade+ with those, that I keep telling myself I'm going to figure out how this CW4 is supposed to work.
I do realize that the target audience loves to jump in the middle of this kind of stuff and just figure it out on the fly - and maybe I'll be able to start figuring things out also.
Right now I'm only spending about 30-45 minutes a day on it and having way more fun playing DMD and CS maps.
Just my tuppence.
