Interestingly this got rated lower than the other map I made, personally I enjoyed it much more.  I'd love to know what people didn't like about it?

I tried to make it scale with time so you were always challenged, trying to avoid a stagnant end game where you mop up while overpowered.  I ran it using both the left and right hand sides at the same time and my anti-creeper guns always on so they filled the river beds.  I think I could have made a much quicker time if I hopped to the other high grounds in the early game to strip out the easy targets, but I was busy with the digitalis on my starter land and missed the opportunity.

People rate maps low when they can't play them.  It has nothing to do with the map.

I've always thought the rating system should be applicable to those who finish it.  Otherwise,
it has no value.

Keep doing what you're doing.  The map was fun.

I think this is very good, I think the top of the map could possibly have some stronger emitters coming on line a little earlier but it's great that the terrain allows you to sneak up the map if you play for speed. The terrain also looks great.

Husky

Ahh, I didn't realise you could rate it before completing it, not sure that makes sense so I'd agree with you there.

Thanks for the kind words.  Having to complete it myself is my major limitation on the difficulty, although I do agree with the earlier emitters; I took a guess at how long it'd take to get to a stable state to be able to hold it back and I think I set it too late.  I feel it'd be better to run things on triggers instead of timers, although that can lead to people turtling heavily.  I'll have a ponder on it all, thanks again for the feedback.

Do we really need to rehash this?  The system isn't ideal for anyone. It will be biased either way. Maybe change it to a Thumbs up/Thumbs down system. Maybe remove it altogether.

To be honest, I have stopped rating maps altogether, I personally find that those people that make maps ignore the ratings (other then to complain) and make the maps that they want to play. I have not seen any maps that I believed where made to appeal to people who previously rated them low.  Just keep making your maps the way you like and continue to ignore the rating system, If you need validation from making maps then rejoice in the number of downloads and ignore the low ratings, The amount of downloads says more about you as a cartographer then the rating system.  :o :o

Thanks for the feedback, I only looked at it as an insight into how it was received and what I could do to be better, being a noob like me it's hard to rate your own work.  I'm not really into fake internet points :)

BilboGCL

Don't call yourself a noob - this is a really nice vanilla map, I really liked it! It's not too much of a slog, it has a nice design, it has a "fair" amount of spores... I really liked it! And, D0m0nik... THAT time again :rolling eyes: ;)

Greetings from The Shire!

P.S. If you want to get better, on the DISCORD, there's a competition channel where every now and then are nice discussions about winning faster!

Ha, thanks Bilbo!

Yeah the best advice is make the kind of map that you want to play. Don't try to please everyone as you will end up making maps that don't quite tick a lot of boxes! This map is good because it should suit a good few people, turtlers can turtle and speed runners can exploit the high ground and easy early targets.

Husky

I have an incurable illness that is turtling, I can't help myself but make an impenetrable base and then expand the walls to envelope the map one section at a time.  I also often only build on 10 height land if possible and dig trenches in front of it, oh and everything has to be symmetrical.

D0m0nik

You'd be impressed with some of Karstens' screen shots, everything in nice straight lines, complete order!

I don't normally like the giant maps, but this one kept things interesting.
My doggone left flank kept getting wiped out. Sure wish I'd learn to do a save once in a while.
Fun stuff.
Thanks,
