One has to wonder, given the author's original  score of over 30 minutes, if he simply set the bar low for people with a low IQ or if he belongs down there.

I was just thinking that. :DThe author himself says it is very fast for people with a high IQ, yet gets a slow time himself. Does the author not think very highly of himself? :P :D

EDIT: I guess I am pretty smart (for now).

It appears the author built a map around a specific strategy, not thinking about alternate strategies... It happens....
