This topic is for discussion of ship #930: Dominator

Size: 34x25
Designer: Lyle

Desc:
A monstrously large ship designed to act as a spearhead to a well planned operation. Countless cannons and lasers provide ample fire coverage, it is supplied by its own pair of dischargers, and every component is covered with armor, including a double layer for the bridge. To balance its ravenous energy needs, heavy weapons have been toned down, and lots of supply has been provided.

Playtesting has revealed:

This ship is completely pointless.

It takes such an absurdly long time to construct, you've easily won most maps by the time it's built.  And don't get me started on filling up the energy tanks.

I do not recommend you use this design.

If you dig through the forums for models 931, 933, 934, 935, 936, however, those models have proven to be highly effective in their designated roles.   Those ships are recommended.  This here one... sucks.

GoodMorning

Everyone builds at least one supercapital that is impractically large.

Now, if you collapse it down to no more than two energy tanks, drop particle beams and missiles, remove the internal armour (by the time it is taking hits, the ship is probably toast) and refit the laser/cannon system; you can probably get it into the area of reasonable size. At that point, it becomes a powerful capital ship.
A narrative is a lightly-marked path to another reality.

Yeah, I'm going to try my hand at making a battleship that's less absurd than this thing.  Something even bigger than my battlecruiser, to see what are the limits of "big".
