How to copy ship designs?

Question from Steam Discussion  and I'm lazy right now (hat tip to Jaworeq!)

Is there any way to actually PASTE your ship designs into a new one? I prepared some chassis for cruiser/scout/battleship and so on, but want different outfits. Like rocketcruiser or guncruiser.

I think there is a way to open the sip and edit it and work on it.

It is also possible to just copy the ship file

I know there is XML, but don't know what can be done w that.
