Sound stutter on Linux

When I start Creeper World 3 and enter a world, after a few minutes, I start to get stutters in the music/sounds. At first it only happens occasionally, but as I keep playing, it becomes more and more frequent, until the sound stutters about twice a second. The animations also freeze very briefly when the sound stutter happens, but otherwise the game remains responsive. The problem is gone when I leave the world and go back to the star system/menu, but if I enter a world again, it starts happening again soon.

I've tried Steam and non-Steam versions, different maps, adjusting the sound and music to lowest levels before entering a world, and entering a world and just waiting in the paused state, and this happens in all of the cases. When I played a previous version of Creeper World 3 in April 2014, I didn't have this problem.

I'm using version 2.08 on Arch Linux.

Seems like that Cryptographic Exception (an unsupported hash algorithm) is causing a problem with the 'Security' framework.  It seems to be a Mono problem - hence 'Please, report this problem to the Mono team'.  I would make sure that you've chmod'd the CW3_Data folder (as well as the executable) and see if that makes a difference.  Beyond that, I'm not at all familiar with Unity's security stuff.

That exception is printed to the log when the game just starts. I assume it's when game uses HTTPS to load news or check for updates from the web server, and it recovers from the error since the game continues running. I don't get the sound stutter until a few minutes after loading a world, and when that starts happening I don't see any new lines printed to the log.

I disconnected from the Internet before starting the game, and this time I don't get the Cryptographic Exception, but I still have the sound stutter problem a few minutes after starting a world. I get other errors probably due to failing to load news/scoreboard data, but it's hard to imagine these errors all causing the sound problem.

Does this happen on all missions or just missions that are large and complex?  Try the first few story worlds and see if it happens.  If it is on complex worlds then something is slowing things down and the stutter is coming from garbage collection and an otherwise system too slow to handle the game.  Anything from other processes eating up system time to something wrong with your graphics drivers could be slowing things down.

Playing normally, any mission starting from the second sector seems to have the problem. If I set speed to 4x and let creeper build up, I have the problem in the first two missions too. I experimented a little bit in the editor, and it does look like the problem happens when the map is large and has many textures. When the problem happens, CW3 is usually only using about 40-50%CPU and there is still more than 1GB free memory.

However a few months ago I was able to finish the whole story and play many user-created and auto-generated maps without problems.

What processor do you have? What are your systems specifications?

There are options to improve in-game performance such as turning off mist and a few others I forgot now. Those may speed up your performance.
