but only when I run steam in online mode, offline it runs just fine. Any ideas?

Try disabling the steam overlay and see if that makes a difference.  You could also try a reinstall of the game and a full system reboot. I know... but believe it or not than fixes about half of the problem reports I get.

Sorry for the late reply. I have two computers that I play on. One at my gaming buddies house and one at my apartment. At my buddies house it will work fine (steam overlay on, online, ect.) but at home is where I must be offline in order to play. Tried the reinstall, overlay, and reboot with no success. It's not that bad and shouldn't really be a priority because I can still play it offline, It's just strange.
