CW3 (Steam) Crashes after Hibernate

Creeper World 3: Art Eternal (Steam, Windows 7 64-bit) crashes every time I start it after hibernation (if I played before hibernation).

With the following error:
CSteamworks.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
 in module CSteamworks.dll at 0023:04e74c79.

It is easy to solve, I just have to run it once to get the crash, exit Steam and start Steam again. Then the game runs fine till hibernation.

Pretty annoying, though.

Correction: probably not related to hibernate. Just got it after about 3 hours from the last time I played. Solved it the same way, though.

My guess is the steam dll is having trouble connecting with the steam client on your machine.  Why, I have no idea.  Restarting the steam client fixes this problem since it would be a new instance and whatever communication the steam client uses would start working again.

I guess you are right. It is a new thing, since I haven't seen it before, but other games are being affected too (I didn't notice because I have almost only played CW3 for the last week or so...).
