This discussion happened back in CW1, again in CW2, and finally Grauniad laid out the canon position HERE.

Is this still the official position on map ownership (I think so), and more important,

how this spills over to CRPL scripts on the custom maps?

Sorry if this has already been discussed on CW3, but couldn't find any sticky post on CW3 boards.
Don't make a slog just because. Be like Master Mapmaker SPIFFEN:

(...)Difficulty is subjective. (...)
SPIFFEN chooses to rate each map as trivial because they believe that the difficulty of the map depends on the capability of the player.
BAD RATING: MEASUREMENT OF MAP HARDNESS.

Through my brief read through the T+Cs upon my first map upload (which I have been unable to read again), I believe that KC LLC owns all rights.
So if you want to be legally accurate you should request permission from Virgil to use scripts found in CS.

i don't think the T&C's say you need to ask anyone.
i think i may have to re-read them but i believe KC has a "giving credit is nice, but not to be expected" policy on map re-editing, although clearly identical maps will be deleted, and this is true for CRPL scripts too.
i try to thank the author of the scripts i steal/borrow but i'm not always sure the maps creator hasn't borrowed them already ;) still it's nice to be nice :D

why would we treat CRPL in any other way? the scripts might be the idea of the author but they are the IntProp of KC and V, script ownership would be KC once published for sure, because by uploading the author relinquishes all rights to the map, including the scipts etc  :)

Virgil said back then that he needs the full rights to be able to redistribute the maps (like the Kongregate versions).

The discussion happened in CW1, and again in CW2. Since its KC that owns the rights of the shared maps and then the re-submitted maps are again in KC's property, only the moral rights remain (KC is based in the USA, and the USA is a signer of the Berne Convention).

Basically the original author of a piece can only expect to be attributed (that we are totally going to do, because we are not douches!!) and that the derivative works will not harm its honor or reputation (yeah, no dissing the fellow map makers).

Asking for permission to use a map or a script is nice, but not a strict requisite. Most authors will give permission anyway.

Just don't embark on this whole "weaving fences around ideas" that this IP frenzy has become in the last decades, and always remember:
