Will give this one a go and offer you some feedback.
Thanks for putting this together.

I'm not so sure this one will go as well, but who knows? :)

It depends on whether people like hard maps, I suppose. This one is meant to be challenging.

I'll admit that I struggled to complete it my self, but that's only because of the race against time that it presents,
with the spores slowly building, planning your demise. ;)

I learned from my last map, when I noticed that you could pick up the terp without challenge using the three orbitals that I forgot to limit,
so I scattered blocks and forced it to start in the bottom left in this one. :)

Edit: I put "it probably sucks" in the descriptions just as kind of a joke. I also don't really want to give people high expectations. :P

OK - so maybe you don't want to 'give people high expectations', but I will.
This is excellent! I mucked up the timing on the front end and got whacked with the big Spore attacks. I went to load up a saved game and change tactics...but NO saved game (I do that to myself a lot).

I can't think of anything I'd change about this. It was fun all the way through, kept me pushing to hit the next target (kill or capture), and I had several options of what tactics to use at each point.

Way fun game and probably the first CW3 game I'll replay just for the fun of it.

Thanks again!

Oh, thank you! That actually means a lot :)
I wasn't really expecting such positive feedback.
I'm glad to hear that, it encourages me to make more.

I don't think others appreciated it as much, though.
I saw that someone lowered it's rating without even finishing the map.
I'd have to guess that the average user isn't looking for something that's so "go, go, go!" where every single second counts.

But I'll still try to make more maps like this. I suppose it'd be helpful to say whether they're challenging or not in their descriptions.

When I was making the map, I wanted to make sure that it was a constant struggle to overtake the 'ruins' and unlock the next tech.
A lot of the terrain is damaged therefore making it harder to just group a bunch of units and charge. I wanted it to be more of a precise, tactical thing.
I personally think it worked out that way. :)

I'll be honest.. The first time I played through the map in testing, I managed to get to the beams in good time, but realized I'd forgotten the totems!
So after I placed them in and tested again, I was struggling. I think I won only through dumb luck, the spores that hit didn't damage my reactors or anything.

I'm also happy with how my little powered-up beam present worked out. It gives an extra good reason to hold down the middle area, just in case you're caught by the first bunch of spores.
I'd say all in all, I'm fairly proud of the map. I like it more than my first one, even if other people don't. It feels more like a traditional challenging CW3 level to me.

Anyway, thanks so much :)
I might start working on another map later today. (It's late morning for me right now)
Hopefully I can create more like this!

Edit: I'd also REALLY like to learn the scripting language, but I've never been good at learning that stuff.
If anyone could point me towards a walkthrough of the language I'd be happy to try to learn it. I have some neat ideas that I'd like to be able to add to my maps. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about a few people down rating it. That's pretty much going to always happen. It's impossible to please everybody so it's more important to look at the overall rating after it gets a chance to accumulate a larger number of ratings. I enjoyed your first map and am looking forward to trying this one.

I don't really let the ratings bother me, I'm honestly pretty proud of the map, so I'm happy either way. I'm also working on a new map right now. I have been for the past five hours. The testing has been ridiculous!
It's a really odd map, very different from the usual stuff. You'll see soon when I tweak it and win. That's when I'll upload ;)

...I'm honestly pretty proud of the map...

As well you should be.
I just gave it another go and caught the Beams just in time for the big release. That shaved a lot of time from the total.

Many games have two critical flaws:
1 - Way too big (for no good reason); and
B - Once you get control the initial situation, it is all just a mop up operation ('rinse and repeat' is the phrase often used.

A game that is sized properly and requires active play all the through to the end is serendipitous.

Noting your earlier comments about time, are you one of those upside down people? We have a couple of active players from down there, including one who is a complete Maniac.

I most certainly am one of those upside down people ;)

Also, thank you again for the kind words!
It seriously does mean a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed the map.
I released a new map if you want to check it out. Although it's quite different from the norm..

..

..'STRAYA! ;)

Will do ;)

Thank you for the links, I went searching for that stuff my self the other day, I hope to focus on it all and learn it my self soon. But I have to be in a really specific mood, because my attention span can deviate from anything that involves a lot of reading, very easily. I'll check it all out again when the time feels right. Thanks!
