How does Terrain decay?

How long does it take for short, meduim, and long to decay?

What number of things make it decay faster?
- Does number of directions matter? (is it 4 or 8)
- Does depth of the creeper matter?
- Does the number of cells matter?
- Does cell versus subcell matter?
Never trust a computer that doesn't fit through your nearest window.

Well, the number of directions doesn't directly matter, except in that there are more subcells exposed to the creeper typically. Essentially (as far as I know, I haven't tested it thoroughly, especially in regards to entombed creeper decaying) every subcell of creeper that's adjacent to any subcell of the terrain will do some amount of damage every frame the creeper tries to move.

So, to answer your questions:
The number of directions doesn't directly matter, except in that typically having more directions will be the same thing as more subcells of creeper being next to it.

Creeper density has no effect on terrain decaying.

Number of cells - basically the same answer as number of directions.

Subcells definitely do matter.



Terrain also decays if there's entombed creeper under it - typically if there's entombed creeper it will decay quickly, I haven't tested it so it's possible the entombed creeper will actually do damage to the terrain for every subcell of the terrain next to it, or it might just do the normal damage. Either way every subcell of the entombed creeper should do damage. It's never really mattered for me, but it would be easy enough to test I think.

Sorry, looking back, my questions are really bad.

I should have just said what makes it decay faster.

My only other questions are how long short, meduim, and long take to decay, and how much faster each subcell makes it decay (i.e. one subcell makes it x seconds while two makes 5 seconds less.

in an earlier version of the game (even after it was live for a while) terrain would decay faster if creeper was underneath, or to the right of it. But I think that has hence been fixed.

How much does the 'depth' of the creeper influence tile decay?
I experimented with this a bit when using decaying tiles as a 'delaying tactic' in map creation but couldn't come to a meaningful conclusion.

It doesn't. 10 density creeper will decay through terrain just as fast as 2000M density creeper (provided it covers the same surface area).

it's an all consuming organic mass... it can cope.
