Thanks for the review. I sometimes forget that there is some relatively new players that haven't dealt with many of my maps.

Now that I look at the description, I did forget the #PRPL tag. That's usually a warning enough.

I mean, I'm familiar with your maps now... :p I've quite liked a number of the others, I just found the SURPRISE! YOU LOSE! factor a bit high here. Even with a warning in the description I think I would have found it frustrating, because I doubt I would have anticipated specifically that. I suppose the lesson is "save right before finishing off any enemy structure when playing a Sorrontis map", except that I've been just fine without doing that on all the others I've played so far...

Yeah, I haven't been particularly evil with my PF maps... CW3 however, that's a different story.

All my maps (11/12) lately get sub 5 ratings.

Have I lost my touch?

No, this is a good map.  Personally, I would say an 8.5 is fair.

My times where:
44:11
21:19
15:45

I know I can shave another minute as well.  On that last run, I mistimed my attack on the third corner, suffered heavy losses and had to rebuild and try it again.

I'm not sure how svartmes pulled off that 11:25 time though.

This map asks you to create and execute a strategy at each point, which is exactly what I like. At first I had no idea how anyone could possibly survive when the stunners start flying, so when after a few tries I managed to take and hold a corner that felt pretty good. From that point things went smoother and I got a 13:49 time.

While the corners seem pretty similar, they're different enough that each attack is its own challenge.

map route
I took the bottom left first, for the extra gem. I put the first gem from the center into mine dischargers, and the bottom left gem into defensive struc. This also makes the center mines pick up additional gems automatically. Then I did the corners counterclockwise.

the end
I attacked from the top middle. The bottom middle may or may not have been better but I happened to have my fleet near the top. I kept on putting a lathe ship (and at one point my HQ) just close enough to lathe the emitter in the center, while blocking the shots from the mines with whatever two random ships were available. They will blow up so have spares ready to move in. You have plenty of energy so rebuild anything that blows right away. Put your HQ and the other lathe ship a little further back and they'll take out the front mines. Swap out ships that get too damaged, if you can. Once the first emitter blows up the particles will become more docile and you start having a chance to take over mines entirely. They'll likely blow up right away again but that's fine, that pushes away particles and saves your ships.

As I played this map, I kept hearing a voice saying "Something wicked this way comes."

Since there wasn't an IRS agent coming to the door I had to assume the voice was coming from the nether-regions of Sorrontis' map. Someone asked why there wasn't a warning about what happens at the end...

There IS a warning. After the title it specifically states those two powerfully ominous words that would even make Ghost Rider cringe - "By: Sorrontis". That's your warning. Here's your sign.  :o

After preparing for the worst, I realized the bomb shelter I dug under the shed in the backyard overnight might have been a bit overkill. But if you finish a Sorrontis map, you deserve a break today.

Fun map, m8! In a mostly evil sort of way... ;D

No, the tag isn't going to help much. New players won't know what it means, and even experienced players won't know whether that means it's a big red warning flag or just a hint to a slight complication.

BTW I was caught completely off-guard by that final emitter, and now it's in the middle of seven pretty quickly-firing mines that are barely manageable, and every exploding mine will instantly wipe out half of the fleet because those particles both accelerate insanely quickly and are hard-hitting.

About mines firing:
Spoiler
The mines firing can be managed if you put all cannons on defense AND have them amped. Still, shots get through. Oh, and you need energy range extended, otherwise the ships will run out of energy too quickly to do any good.

About mine explosions:
Spoiler
I will try to avoid exploding them, by setting the lathes to mines only. If it turns out that the cannon shots become unmanageable if I get close enough, I'll just quit - I don't want a repeat just to be able to jump through a hoop being dangled in front of me.

Just so ya know, experienced players know that "Sorrontis" is Latin for "Unfair and very bad things are going to happen in this map. You should buy a puppy before playing this map." - No matter how I've failed on these maps, I find it helps to have a furry little friend who will love you regardless how often you fail.

Either that, or you can hire a professional cuddler to reassure you that "Everything will be okay". These kinds of jobs actually exist because map-makers like Sorrontis exist.
