So if its not clear enough in-game, you have to excavate something in that rectangular area up top and nullify what you find.

So there are totems somewhere, undefined, and I have to dig -1 level of terrain to find them?

Only some of the dialog/conversation is preserved for later review.

The totems are in the 4 craters with reactor tech. The amount of reactor tech serve as a small hint towards how many totems there are in each crater. Yes you have to dig -1 level of terrain to find them.

EDIT: amount of reactor tech does not mean there are 5/10 totems in each crater. It means that for the crater with 1 pickup of 5 reactors, there is 1 totem in there.
