ok i give up what's the secret?

Move up to the upper right at first and build a blaster.  Clean up the initial creeper and build reactors and tech domes to get a few upgrades.  Then try putting a shield in that notch, surround it with blasters and launchers, poke a hole and go for it.  At least that's what I did.  I'm a chronic over-builder though...
